Most Hyundai's have hydraulic tappets for over head cams, so if its ticking you have a noise tappet. Try changing the oil and in that does not help try an additive to clean the oil gallery's and flush the engine. Also low oil pressure can cause htis fault as well so get it tested if you can.

How can I set tappits when engine switched off. Thanks for the previous answer. It helped.

Top dead center cylinder 1 measure tappit gap loosen nut on adjuster use screwdriver to lessen or increase gap keeping driver in addition tighten nut making sure adjuster doesn't rotate check gap again readjust if necessary repeat for other tappet
top dead center cylinder 2 and repeat above same for each cylinder
if the engine is an overhead cam the above won't work

High presser in tappit cover volvo 84 gl

Check your PCV valve. Its the device that provides ventilation to the crankcase and valve covers. If its clogged or non functional it will cause the engine to **** or blow air from an area with less resistance, which is probably the filler cap. As its blowing air out of the engine it will shoot a little bit of oil with it

Ticking noises / Spun Bearing

If it is a light ticking noise it could be something as simple as tappits on rocker arms. valves pinging..........IF it is a ticking and not a KNOCKING noise then i would have another mechanic take a look at it...Sad thing that happens is some mechanics will give wrong suggestion for the simple fact of making your wallet lighter.... not saying this is the caes but something this costly needs more than one mechanics opinion. My suggestion would be have another mechanic look at it not telling what the first mechanics opinion was and then see how they compare..... hope this info helps and good luck....Please rate my post.

Need to know what causes this noise.

Hi its a common problem for these model legacys to tick due to the tappits, if it never used to do it then there is prob no damage to them, only dirt stuck under them so some good oil and some engine flush should help, or else try some anti tappit noise treatment in the oil your using now and it may also help
