2002 Stratus Car Battery and Radio

My stereo did not want to start anymore. Then a few weeks later the car does not want to start unles we get jumper cables. We went ahead and purchased a new battery, but still having the same problem. It will be fine, but the next day or two we need jumper cables again just to start. Can the radio and problems with the car starting be due to the same problem. Oh yeah, and when we are able to jump start the car, the radio comes back on , the off again.

Could be the radio is drawing current. Get an auto electrician to take a look and find the fault.

SOURCE: 2002 Dodge Stratus, Start Problem/ Electrical?

First thing I would do, is remove, clean, inspect & tighten all battery connections including & especially the other end of my negative connection. Also any connections to a power distribution box, that is usually found near the battery. In your explanation, you say when it does start, everything works normal, does that include radio & clock?

Start out by replacing the oxygen sensors. The electrical system and fuel delivery depend on the O2 sensor to be in perfect condition. If you still have these flashing and flickering lights after you replaced the O2 sensor then then next thing to replace is the ECU (also known as a PCM or vehicle computer) Click on the link below to view the parts you will need:

Sounds like a issue with the battery or the distributor. It may also be a more serious issue, I recommend taking it to a repair location.

PT Cruiser will not start or turn over....previously was overheating HELP!

I would start by getting a wiring diagram of the starting system or a repair book.
There is a 30amp fuse that powers the ignition switch and the starter relay in the fuse box. You should be able to jumper that relay and make the starter crank the engine. If so, check for power from the key switch to the relay and proceed with the rest of the circuits.

How do i jump my 1997 dodge stratus

  • Ensure your Stratus's ignition is in the "Off" position, and turn off anything that uses battery power, such as lights, radio and heater blower. Park the booster car close enough to the dead car that you can connect the jumper cables to both batteries, but make sure the two vehicles aren't touching. Connect one red (+) clamp of the cables to the booster battery's positive terminal. Connect the other red clamp to the Stratus' "Remote Terminal." The terminal is located next to the air filter assembly, and is marked with a "+" and the word "Positive." Dodge uses these remote terminals to reduce the risk of explosion caused by sparks near the battery. Connect one of the black (-) cable clamps to the negative terminal on the booster battery. Connect the other black clamp to the negative "Remote Terminal" on the Stratus, located on the opposite side of the air filter assembly from the positive terminal. It is a marked with a "-" and the word "Negative."Start the booster car, if not already running, and apply slight pressure to the gas pedal to make it idle faster. Wait a few minutes and attempt to start the Stratus. If it cranks a little, but still won't start, continue charging the battery. Once the Stratus starts, leave it running and disconnect the jumper cables in reverse order of the way you attached them.
