Question about 1999 Chevrolet Lumina

1 Answer

Engine cut out while driving. Would turn over, no start.

This is a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina LTZ 3.8L. Engine cut out while driving. Would turn over, no start. Had radio & window power when it died.

Now battery shows 11.3 Volts on voltmeter, put key in ignition, bell rings, but no power to anything, no clicking when I try to start the car. Even hooked up jumper cables to a brand new battery in another car, to make sure power was available........nothing, only the bell dinging when I first put the key into the ignition. Help.......

Well, as with most people these days money is in short order.
Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The dealer wants $150 just to look at it, plus $80 to have it towed there.
I am usually pretty good with cars but this one has baffled me.

When I was able to crank the motor, after it first died, I did have fuel pressure. Battery went dead from cranking...........charged the battery........now the(ignition?) problem. Thanks

If it were mine, I would check to see that there is fuel to the engine and the ignition system is working.

Hi, I am a chilean owner of Chevrolet Lumina LTZ

I've had the same problem. Change the starter solenoid in the steering column because if you don't, eventually it will not start at all. Right now, it is warning you.

1999 chevy lumina with a new battery that will not turn over. AAA can jump it and it will start and run for ever until it is turned off then it will not start again. Jumping it from another car usually...

because aaa can jump start it and you can't sounds like maybe the battery cables are curroided (dirty)
in-between the battery post and the clamps, clean the battery terminals and charge your battery as a loose conection can run down even a new battery

I have a 1999 Lumina LTZ that has reciently started shifting hard and the Service Engine Light is on. Fluid level is fine. What do I look for?

low on tranny fluid i assume. if your levels are o.k. then it sound like you cars computer system ECU is going bad, 12 years ago my 1989 transmission was doing the same thing, clear out of the blue sky..so i figured 190,000 miles on the car an never had a problem well i'll spend $200 and see if it fixes it right back up, and it did....lucky guess.but check you u-joints first before any thing i"ve had these problems too too much play and then they break.
