SOURCE: I replaced my 2.8 Colt

as it was a diesel then you have put in a petrol engine so i must assume you changed the wiring loom and the computer then the rev counter should already be connected within the wiring loom on lexus ,the rev counter will connect to the computer where it measures the impulses sent out by the ECU to coil pack .Although not knowing exactly what you done to fit this engine its difficult to say exactly ,the only comment i can make is how do get away with changing the original engine thats on the certificate of homoglonation ,doesnt this vehicle have to go for a annual vehicle mechanical inspection?? also now its a pertol engine vehicle it has no value unless its for weekends in the mountains on private roads for yourself ,as a diesel engined vehicle it would have been worth anything from 5000euros upwards but a petrol engine ?? 1000 euros if your lucky anyway best of luck with a job like this i miss this sort of work though to be truthful a good weld and cut and shut ,i cannot even fit a spotlight here without paying 80 euros to a so called technical engineer for a signature and they have to be fitted by a authorised garage with a tax number and a member of the association de talleres a concensionares espa?a ,but dont go their ----

How do i set timing marks for 2002 jetta 4 tdi 1.9 injector pump

timing is set on the alh tdi with a specialize set of tools, you have a holding tool for the crank, a pin type to hold the injector pump and a bar type tool to hold the camshaft. this will set the timing to basic settings when doing a timing belt job. you must then use the computer diagnostic specialized tool to set timing properly. Again, you will need specialized tools to perform this repair. Vag-com or vcds by ross-tech works very well if you are thinking about buying your own.

How to set timing on a injection pump on a 1.9 tdi jetta 2003 did not use the tools on the crank and pin broke off in the pump so i think my timing is out on the car doesnt want to start

Go to a site for tools for the TDi and get the proper tool set. You need a scanner to properly set the timing as well.

Doing it by marking the sprockets and hoping is a dangerous undertaking, to say nothing of costly if you do it wrong.

When you have set the timing at the mark in the flywheel, with the cam lock in back of the head, the pin in the injection pump and tensioner loosened up, you can onstall the cam belt and tighten the tensioner so the V lines up with the pointer.

Now remove the locks and hand turn the engine over two times and recheck the marks..okay ? If yes, then you can run the motor.

Now plug in the scanner and wait until coolant over 85C and look at timing. Adjust as necessary.

If EVER this engine is cranked with timing of cam off over 8 degrees, the valves get bent.

My Golf mk4 TDI will start if left over night first time but when I try again it won't start.

Timing is likely out of spec, you need a vag-com to set timing on a TDI. even the dealer who did mine didn't know this and screwed it up. I set mine with this vag-com program from ross-tech and now it starts great and gets better fuel econ.

I am putting a new timing belt on a 1990 colt vista with a 2.0 liter engine.I need to know the timing mark positions.

On cam gear there's a punch mark, line that mark at 9 oclock there's a timing mark on cylinder head, crank gear, in back of crank gear is a plate with a (v) cut line gear at 11 oclock there's a timing mark on front case, gear to right of crank gear has a (v) cut on it, line it at about 11 oclock at timing mark on front case, adj tensioner and your done.Good Luck.

Setting the timing

No sticker on hood or rad support to tell you timing? #1 cylinder is one closest to front of engine. By front I mean where all the pulleys, belts etc are.
