1999 Dodge Dakota Sport V8 5.2 - Won't start but has spark, it's getting gas, smells like it's flooding out. Fuel pump & battery have been replaced and are operating properly. I've tried holding the gas pedal to the floor while turning it over as the owner's manual suggests, but it still won't start. Any clue as to what could be wrong?

SOURCE: 1995 dodge dakota 2wd 3.9 no spark to plugs,or coil,orfuelpump

First of all let's explain how the spark gets to the plugs. There is a crankshaft position sensor and a cam sensor. They are what determines when to fire the coils and injectors. The crank sensor is located on the passenger side on top of the bellhousing, the cam sensor is the pickup plate in the distributor. As the engin turns the send refernece pulses to the computer which grounds and ungrounds the ignition coil causing it to discharge and send voltager from the secondary coil wire to the center tower in the distributor cap. The rotor button recieves the voltage and distributes it to the 6 towers (1 for each cylinder) If you say you're getting spark from the rotor that tells me the primary side of the ignition system is working, and the secondary side is working into the distributor cap. I'd check for spark out of the plug wires at the plugs. Pull a wire and insert a #2 phillips screwdriver into it, hol the shaft of the screwdriver aprox 1/8"(no more) from the exaust manifold and observe the spark as someone turns over the engine. You should see a nice blue spark. If theres spark, spray a little gum cutter in the throttle body an crank it, if it fires you have a fuel problem. Install a fuel pressure gauge on the schrader valve on the fuel rail and observe it as you crank it. If theres no fuel pressure maks sure there's fuel in the tank, if so climb underneath and beat on the bottom of the tank with a rubber hammer, the pump may be going bad, sometimes you can jar them and make them run.

SOURCE: 2006 dodge grand caravan-car won;t start.

Test at the spark plug if you are getting current there with a cheap spark plug tester, if not, it could be the spark box. ( it used to be an ignition coil on older cars ) double check the computer for codes which may lead to a cam sensor not giving the PCM information.

SOURCE: 2006 dodge grand caravan-car won;t start.

My 2003 dodge caravan would not start after driving about 1/2 hour. I stopped for coffee and when got back in to start it started I switched gears and it stalled. I tried to start again switched gears then it started but only for 2 sec. No clicking, no cranking sound just would not start but battery functions were great. Spent 2 days with a mechanic who could not resolve so sent to Dodge. After a day of putting wires back and checking out the problem they said it was the computer. Said that it was bad and could be replaced at no charge due to malfunction. Yes, it worked fine afterwards no more problems. They also said that some of the computers are found to be defective like this one so I hope this helps you in the right choice to have the dealer check it out if you are unable to get a computer reading and there is no obvious short in the system. Free sounded very good but as you know there is no such thing as really free as they got me for other things $350 worth. ouch!

2002 Dodge Dakota Sport with 3.9 litre engine, cranks but no start

No it has to be something simple. An engine only needs three things to run.

Fuel and you know you have that.
Compression.
A spark at the right time.

Check for spark, check for codes. The compression can't have changed.

1998 dodge 5.2l intermitant spark no start just floods

Since you are smelling fuel and there is fuel pressure at the fuel rail, i would change the distributor cap and rotor button. If that fails to work make sure the wire clip on your coil is securely fastened to the coil. If it is and you still have intermittent spark, replace the coil itself. I hope this helps. Good luck.

1996 dodge dakota, used bad fuel, won't start

Pump the tank dry of the fuel using the electric fuel pump, just jump the fuel pump relay to get the pump to run and remove the supply line to the injectors and attach a hose. Use extreme caution around gasoline, no sparks, ground the container to the truck.

1997 Dodge Dakota Sport, V6. Truck died while driving and won't start.

You need to know if it is getting spark to the plugs and fuel pressure before you start replacing parts.
It could be as simple as the ASD relay.

a vehicles crank shaft sensor sends a signal to computer, as to tell what revolution the crank is on. you may not get a check engine light. check injectors for leaking in to cylinders, it can cause an excess amount of fuel in cylinder. this may be causeing the no starts and flooding smell. if it starts good warm then check the injectors for leaking. good-luck!! you may also have a bad coolant tempurature sensor. symtoms of a bad cts are--poor cold idle, stalling, slow idle speed, cold hesitation or stumble, poor fuel milage. ( will also ****** timing). its hard to say with out being there, so check out above. good- luck!!

I need to change my fuel pump and i cant seem to get the fuel pump out of the gas tank its a 1999 dodge dakota sport?

there is ring with tabs sticking up off of it holding the fuel pump plate down. thoroughly clean the area and spray a lubricant like p.b. spray on this ring, then tap the tabs using a drift or screwdriver and hammer to the left (you should see the way they need to go) to release the ring, lift the ring off and remove the plate/pump being careful not to damage the gasket. installation is the reverse of removal

Verify you have good strong spark at the plugs. Also you want to check the fuel pressure with a gauge. If it's within specs and you have good spark, it could be flooded. Once in a while these trucks will flood the plugs if the secondary ignition has not been replaced in a while. Try starting the truck with the throttle wide open (clear flood mode) and see if it fires. If not, look at the plugs and replace as needed.
