Question about 2001 Volkswagen Passat

Passat blowing blue smoke, no power and burning oil

Okay so my 2001 passat tdi is causing me real grief. Here goes, when i first got the car the new timing belt had not been fitted correctly, this knackering the whole engine. The engine was replaced with a reconditioned one, then the turbo went, so this was replaced. Just recently my car has been popping into limp mode when at a certain rev. I noticed this more when going up hill, there was no response when hitting the throttle. Many trips to the garage and they were unable to find a problem, even tried the diagnostics. Now there is blueish smoke coming out of the exhaust, this is intermittent. I went to a specialist and they advised me to remove the intercooler hose and run to see if excess oil comes out to which there was only a little bit, put the hose back on and there is less smoke coming out. Will see if there continues to be a high usage of oil. I was told if i tried this hose thing and there was no change then it was either the turbo at fault or worn piston rings. But my turbo was changed less than 6 months ago. The garage told me it would be highly unlikely if it was the piston rings!!??!! Help, i dont know what to think. Also i crashed this piece of junk and blew the radiator, and when that happened there was a hell of an amount of smoke blowing out, plus there was an awful smell in the car. The radiator was replaced. Any ideas would be much appreciated, Clare

My 2002 jetta blows blue smoke a lot of blue smoke out of tail pipe but not all the time.????

valve seals are leaking oil or the valve guides are worn allowing oil to slip past the seals.

Blue smoke from rear

blue smoke is usually a sign of oil thats burning. sounds like you need a valve job for it to correct the valves and stop the oild from burning. Either way its most likely going to have to go to a mechanic.

Engine blowing thick smoke from exhaust

It's likely that the bad bearings and resultant oil seepage from the bad turbo caused oil to pool up in the intercooler piping (this is common). With a new turbo in there, you won't have further oil seepage, so the remainder of the oil in the piping should burn off. Over the next little while, you should see the amount of smoke coming out continue to diminish. If it does not, and is still smoking in a week or two, post back up on here and we'll take it from there.
