- no I haven't checked them, and the Check engine light comes on for a few days then goes off.

Do you have a check engine light? It could be that and oxygen sensor is bad, and the car is running rich. You can also check it by felling if ther is a lot of black sut on the inside of your tail pipe. Have you checked either one?

What year is the car? You could have a calibration issue or it could be somthing as simple as the car being bought in a higher or lower elevation.
