Probably the transfer case encoder motor. Unplugging it at the wiring harness should make the "service awd or smart trac" light come on. This will tell you the awd controller module is probably OK. Common failure item to Bravada's. Try "thepartsladi" eBay store for lowest price motor, beware aftermarket!!! Also make sure transfer case fluid is "blue" GM Auto-Trak II only! If not bllue when checking change twice after driving for a week with blue fluid.

drain the transfer case and check for metal particles in the fluid, there also may be debris bigger than that, try the fluid change in any event then if that doesn't do the trick you will have to overhaul the transfer case, this is a standard transfer case used by light duty trucks and SUV's based on a truck chassis, not the viscious drive type used bt passenger cars like Suburu

I can tell you exactly when my mechanic can find the part cheap enough for me to afford to replace. He's telling me its the computer sensor that automatically switches to 4WD. For now, he has taken it out so that it is in 2WD. The only thing is that the service AWD light stays on, but it works fine now even though it is only 2WD. I'll worry more about the part when it gets closer to winter. By the way, I think he said the part was $400-500 brand new. We are trying to find an after market or used one.

I have a 1998 bravada with the smart trak system. No fuses are blown and all wiring has been checked and no breaks were found. Ive been told that it can be the motor on the trandfer case or possibly a...

I have 2K bravada. Make sure you have serviced your transfer case with the "blue" GM Auto-trac II fluid. The "encoder" motor is a common failure item also. Unplugging it at the transfer case should cause the "service smart trac" light on dash to appear. This tells you that probably the encoder controller is good. Only buy the GM/Delphi/AC Delco motor, or you'll be changing it often. Try "thepartsladi" on eBay!

When I turn sharpling left or right(like parking) there is a binding noise ,but not driving straight or normal speeds. 0there is a binding

this is a verry common problem with the awd bravada a tsb was sent out telling you to change the transfer case fluid to gm tract 2 fluid well let me tell you my story first i am a mechanic of 40 + years i have a 2000 bravada awd i changed the fluid 2 times like the tsb says no fix got a low mile used transfer case instaled it put the trac 2 fluid in it no fix replaced the awd module no fix so i decided to take my old transfer case apart and see what makes it tick i found out that a spring pushes the clutch fork to disingage the front drive shaft clutches the encoder moter applys the fork sending power to the f drive shaft the spring was weak and did not disingage the cluch pack THIS IS AN EASY FIX but you should replace the fluid first if it remains the same then remove the plug in the bottom and i mean the bottom of the transfer case cant miss it it looks like a tall bolt when you remove the plug a spring will come out with it i shimed my spring about a 1/4 inch PROBLEM GONE i tested this on my old transfer case on the bench first and it worked fine i also tryed streching the old spring that did not work maybe replacing the spring with a new one might also work also i would think a new encoder motor might return to rest easer then an old one this spring is what returns the encoder motor and pushes the clutch pack to 2wd

99 bravada sluggish/hesitating while turning right or left

If youre talking about wheel hop when turning at slow speeds with only the info you have provided I would guess it has smart track AWD and this is normal, How ever if you have push button 4x4 controls your front drive axle could be locked in, in that case have a garage check it out...

Feels like my 03 Bravada is stuck in 4wheel drive, jerks badly.

The Bravada 4X4 system uses a fluid called auto trak, in the transfer case. The fluid needs to be changed every 50,000mi. It is a synthetic fluid that will breakdown and cause a binding condition in the system. It is easy to change so anyone can do it. Good Luck.
