Question about 1987 Jeep Wrangler

1987 Jeep wrangler fires up, but stalls after 1 or 2 seconds

1987 2.5L amc, replaced tank and fuel pump. After $1000 dollar mechanic bill still doesn't run. Fires right up each time you turn the key but dies after 1 or 2 seconds. Found that if you have a charged battery and disconnect the alternator the jeep will run. Mechanic says he's tried everything and gave up.

When you take alternator out of play. the vehicle runs. i would be replacing the alt. these units are complex containing modules, regulators that can give you erratic problems, but i think u answered your own question alternator

My 91 jeep wrangler sputters, back fires and stalls. I changed the TPS on it and it still does it. I thought about the fuel filter but I don't know where that is could you please help.

The fuel filter is on the pump in the fuel tank. It is usually not replaced. It sounds as if the Crank Position Sensor could be your problem. It is located on the top of the transmission bell housing.

It could be the pump but you need to verify if you can hear the pump running after it stalls and you turn the key back on to try and start it. If you don't hear it it isn't running.
The pump is inside the tank but it dosen't come inside, you need to put it in there. That requires removing the tank. On a 90, there is a filter mounted on the chassis near the left rear tire. I'd replace that first as if you replace the pump, that should be replaced as well and if it's plugged up it may in fact be the only problem.

1987 jeep wrangle will not start or run

Uncouple the fuel line coming from the pump at the carburetor, place a clean can under the line, and have someone operate the starter--you should have fuel shoot from the line in spurts as the engine turns. If it does, then the entry port on the carburetor is plugged. Remove the float assembly and pull out the float needle valve. Hook the fuel line back to the carburetor and try the starter again, there should be fuel pumping into the float bowl. If not, check to see if there is a filter on the fuel inlet path that may be plugged. If no filter, remove the float needle seat to see if something is blocking the fuel passage. If all else fails, use compressed air to blow backwards through the needle seat (remove the fuel line again). Hope some of this helps!

88 wrangler stalling 5 speed 4 cyl

Was there any water in the tank? Has anyone changed the fuel filter? Has anyone checked the ceramic ballast resistor on the drivers fender near the master cylinder?
Has anyone checked the crank sensor output? Did anyone see if it will run if you spray carb cleaner into the throttle body after starting? Are there pulses present at injector? You need to verify these things to get some idea what is going on there.

1987 Jeeps starts right up but stalls after 2 seconds

Check the alternator and see what charging voltage is... anything over 14.3 volts running should be suspect. If voltage is too high, it is possible that the computer is shutting down the engine to protect itself. I don't see any connection between the fuel tank problem though, unless while doing pump, someone accidentally grounded a hot lead and didn't think any damage had been done. This makes some sense, because the battery alone will lonly put out from 12-13volts, which go lower without alternator, till it reaches a point where voltage is insufficient to operate the ignition system. This is a "shot in the dark" and will likely lower my "rating" but I don't care about that... Try checking this... at least it points you in some direction rather than flailing around!!!
good luck

JEEP WONT START

Sound like a connection (loos of the ground circuit) problem to the in tank fuel pump, I wouls suggest you check all the connections from the fire wall back for any loose or corroded connectors.
