make sure we dont get too high tech those are double element bulbs first of not un comon to have one element working if they are good use a dvom and test resistance from stop light switch to bulb sockets if that is good make sure you have a ground for just brake circuit if all above is good try unplugging stop switch at pedal and jump the two pins if that works stop lights you know the switch is bad if not check voltage coming to switch let me know we can fix this and remeber the KISS theory (keep it simple stupid) please rate this info

My 97 jetta brake lights stay on as well, and i've already replace the brake light switch more then once and i cant seem to find the problem.

The brake light switch on that car is adjustable.

If you look at the portion of it that is physicaly pressed down by the pedal it has a round bit that can be pulled out in order to reach the brake pedal sooner. to test this opperate the brake light switch plugged in but not installed. and see if the brake lights work correctly. if so push the adjustable part a little deeper in.

If this is not the case the wiring to the brake light switch could be pinched or shorted somewhere causing it to over ride the brake light switch.

Hope this is helpfull to you

I have a 1992 Buick La Sabre Custom. My brake lights are not working but taillights, turn signals and hazard lights do work. Switch ok. fuse ok. ????????

if your fuse is good. and you have power at the brake light switch and when you hit the brakes you have power coming out the otherside of brake light switch/which would be the white wire/ check that the white wire is sending power up the turn signal switch. if theres power there and your turnsignals work? im afraid that your turnsignal switch is bad rare but it has been known to happen.

Brake lights not working,fuse okay

Check for a good connection and try adjusting the brake light switch on top of the brake pedal. If that doesn't work, replace the switch.

Check the brake pedal switch and the wiring. You may have a broken wire.

Where is the back-up light switch located? I have no back-no lights.

Simply unscrew it from the housing to remove or replace. 1990 — 92 Golf and Jetta The back-up light switch includes the fifth gear switch used by the up-shift light. Did you check the bulbs into taillamps and fuses? If they are O.K. check brake light switch, located on the top of brake pedal with two wires connector.Disconnect the plug and short with wire.Check brake lights at the back.If O.K. check the switch. Some models use self adjusting switch.Just pull out the front part of the switch and put him back.
