Question about 1995 Volkswagen Cabrio

1995 VW Cabrio Speedometer not working

I just replaced both CV shafts, LF wheel bearing and hub, now the speedometer does not work.  Everything else on the dash is working properly. Is it something I did while working on the shafts, or just a coincidence? Is there a speedo cable, or electronic speed sensor? Any ideas would help. Thanks  :-)

Speed sensor should be in the front driver's side wheel well. My guess is it was disconnected while you were working.

It could be a bad wheel bearing, and if so it probably is the passenger side, but check them both sides. Raise both wheels off the ground, or one at a time, and rock the wheel back and forth and up and down. The side with the bad bearing will have a lot more play in it.
To replace, the wheel "hub" with sealed bearing inside is replaced. The hub is bolted to the wheel knuckle, which supports the hub, the CV joint and axle shaft, the brake caliper and rotor, and the wheel itself. If you are experienced at car repair and have the proper tools, you can do it yourself. At a shop, expect a 2-4 hour labor bill, maybe under 2 hours if everything comes off easily. The cost of the hub and sealed bearing is probably less than $100, although prices can vary greatly.

Where is the speed sensor located on a 2001 oldsmobile intrigue?

speed sensor is on right side of transaxle just above where right axle shaft go's into trans . if the speed sensor is at fault your speedometer will not work and your ses light shoulded be on .check if your brake lights are working . brake switch could be faulty . disconnect the cruse control cable at throttle and at cruise module (left shock tower) to see if pull ribbon in module is broken . other than that you need to start doing electrical tests at the module

How do I replace a front wheel bearing?

front wheel bearing is pressed into hub and has retaining clip on rear and then cv axle shaft comes through center and has a nut and keeper pin. Rule of thumb is to replace both front wheel bearings at same time. raise front of vehicle place on jackstands for safety remove front wheels remove brake calipers remove front rotors and cv axles remove steering hub assy from lower ball joint, tie rod end and struts take hub to shop and have bearing pressed out have new bearings pressed in reassemble front wheels in reverse order of disassembly.

The sensor is attached to the output shaft of the transmission and should not be affected by the work that you did. Are the ABS sensors ok?

I would like to know if the wheel bearing is in the shaft or the hub?

The Constant Velocity (CV) joints are located on the inner and outer edges of the axle shaft. The axle shaft runs through the hub and bearing in the spindle.

Clunking sound under van when turning

Your CV half-shafts and, possibly, your wheel hubs, are worn out. Replace your CV shafts. If it continues, replace your wheel bearing hub assemblies.

Shakes badly when it reaches 30mph

could be bad hub bearings, or cv axles. If the cv boots are ripped, replace the entire axles, both sides. if the cv boots are still intact then I would replace only the hub bearing assemblies.
