SOURCE: Front struts replacement

Jack up and secure front end of your vehicle,Take off two front wheels. Loosen to bolt on the bottom of struts (Its a bolt and nut). Remove clip that holds brake hose on to strut and remove hose. DO NOT OPEN BRAKE LINE OR DISCONNECT FROM CALIPER. Remove bolts and remove bottom of strut from knuckle/Hub assembly. Then loosen nuts on strut tower( on top of fender inside hood) (3) nuts, mark exact locations of each nut on strut mount area on upper fender weld. Make sure to hold strut on the bottom so it doesn't drop down on caliper and knuckle or on you possibly.YOU WILL NEED A SPRING COMPRESSOR to compress spring so you can take struts off. MAKE SURE THAT SPRING IN COMPRESSED/SQUEEZED WITH A STRUT COMPRESSOR. Then loose center nut on strut tower(may be covered with a circular rubber cover) If nut spin around with out getting loose use vise grips to hold strut rod ONLY TO REMOVE STRUT NOT TO INSTALL. if you use vise grips to install it will damage strut. When nut is off, remove strut and reinstall new one transfer all rubber boots and cushions from old strut. Good Luck thanks for using FIX-YA.com contact me if you need more help.

SOURCE: need to replace rear struts

It depends on who does it. If you are doing it by yourself, I would allow at least a couple of hours on each side, although it should take no more than one per side. If you have air tools and a lift, it should take between an hour or two from start to finish, since removing wheels, bolts etc would be fast. Hope this helps you, Rick

SOURCE: 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE rear tires and struts scraping

struts frozen or not will not control how close the tires are to the strut. The tire and lower portion of the strut move of one. The compresson/rebound point is about the strut base

SOURCE: tire shop says tire wear is due to bad rear struts

you need to replace only the shock cartridges.  Also have the tires rebalanced.

SOURCE: how to replace a serpentine belt on a 2004

  1. Lift the car so you can work from underneath when needed.
  2. Disconnect the battery . Just to be safe.
  3. Take the serpentine belt off.
  4. Remove the alternator.
  5. Remove the A/C compressor. (You can do it without removing, but it's a royal PITA... LOL) Don't unhook the lines, just unbolt and move out of the way.
  6. Remove the worn tensioner from t he block. (You need to unbolt the pulley first to get to all the tensioner bolts)

2004 Pontiac grand am just replaced struts yesterday today there is spots on front and back of fender area of front passenger side and at bottom area of strut there Brown thick looking stuff

i have purchased bad struts off the shelf. sometimes they sit forever then when you buy them the seals blow. check to see if it is fluid coming from the struts them self. if not check wheel bearing assembly. or follow the stuff and hopefully find where it is from. also check the seals on the trans axle.

How do i replace the front struts on a 1991 pontiac grand prix?

Sorry I lost you. DO NOT REMOVE THE 21MM NUT HOLDING THE STRUT TO THE COIL SPRING WITHOUT THE USE OF A COMPRESSOR. If you`re replacing the entire strut and coil just reverse the procedure. You`ll need an alignment after wards.

Do I need a spring compressor just to remove and replace the front left and right strut mounts on a 1997 pontiac grand prix gt?

If your replacing it with a quick strut which is the spring, mount, and strut assembly then a spring compressor is not required. If replacing just the mounts then definitely a spring compressor is required. Please use extreme caution when compressing and removing strut assemblies as the springs maintain alot of pressure on them.
