Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

Took out a fuse don't know what it goes too

There was a 120v fuse on my battery cable connected to the post well it burnt out so i took it off but i don't know what it goes to and if it's important

It could be for the head lamps or ignition chech and see whats not working and go from there

sounds like you have a draw put a test light between the the positive post on your battery and the cable if the test light goes on then something is not turning off pull each fuse one at a time till the test light goes out when it goes out that is your bad circuit be sure to replace each fuse after you check to see if the test light goes out

I don't know where the positive cable from the battery goes


shawn, the battery postive has two red cables one goes 7 inches to the fusebox the other cable goes down then over to the passenger side to the the starter solenoid,which is directly connected to the starter.

This sounds like a bad starter but you should of got dash lights and headlights, if there are no headlights or park lights and no dash lights then theres a bad connection, start at the battery remove the terminals and clean posts then follow the groung wire to engine block and make sure theres a good connection to engine, a quick trick is to use jumper cables and connect one end to battery neg terminal and the other end to the engine, a good clean spot of metal and then see if theres power, if there is then its the ground cable to engine, if theres still no power then locate the box that the postive cable goes to, this pos cable goes to the starter and also to a fuse/relay box, check that connection. good day.

i would check out the positive battery cable that runs to the starter, also , check all of the wires that are at the starter , to make sure that they are not loose, torn, burnt, ot frayed.

I replaced my engine in a 1985 cad deville,there is 6 wires going to the starter, i know that the positive cable goes on the large post and the purple wire goes on the small post.then there is the tan wire...


If the wire is big enough to go on the big post, likely it sends power to something from the battery at that point. The smalls that are hot go to one small terminal on the battery and the other goes to the other terminal. The single likely goes live when you turn the key to start. Cannot confirm these without proper diagram but this is a start.

My brother hooked up the battery backwards (reverse polarity), and now nothing works !!!!! no lights, starter, or anything else . Where do i start ???


At the starter relay on the fender that the positive wire goes too ( it's short) there's several other wires under the same bolt. These are fuseable links and should be replaced with the same kind of wire. Theirs likly maybe two of these wires burnt in two. If your luckly the fuseable links burnt though and the alternater and the cumputer weren't burned up. With the wire replared and when you go to connect the battery make sure the key is off and lights and doors are closed and strick the cable to the battery post to see if it sparks. It it sparks very much at all won;t connect it but put a test light bewteen the cable and the battery post and it'll light. if it's bright something is on. If the altenater was damaged it may be on so diconnect it. The big wire on the altenator, If the test light is still on keep pulling fuses and disconnecting things till the light goes out or is dim. them connect as much as you can and light light remain dim or out till you have as much as possible connected then try to start the truck. If it runs now check to see what doesn't work and see what it takes to fix or replace them and your back on the road.

Check all the fuses pull them out ,look at them one by one,also there are some fusible links that will pull apart like taffy if they are burned,they look like wires,they will be at the end of the positive battery cable,where ever it goes,to the starter or relay.

Hello. Yes. the black wire is the ground wire. It goes from the frame to the negative post of the battery. The red wire is the hot wire and it goes to the positive post.

Kinda depends on what you are looking for!
At Harbor Freight you can buy a Volt/ohm/ammeter for about 3 bucks.
Do it.
Use the Amp Meter set for 10 amps. Connect it between the neg. cable and the battery - terminal.
Repeat the fuse pull exercise. The removed fuse that reduces the reading the most is the fuse to the circuit that has your problem (except the hood light and the interior lights - which will be on during this exercise).

Once you have isolated the circuit you should easily find the bad device - or bad wire feeding that device.

Replaced the battery but when I go to start the fuses blow


you carnt get them to fit the terminals properly one terminal on your battery is bigger than the other,if it is blowing the fuse when you crank it over it might be a starter problem
