R12

Most everything built before 1994 used R12 freon. And you must have a license to buy R12 in most countries.
A shop can convert the system over to R134.

Does a 1994 Dodge Spirit have r134a or r12 freon?

1994 Spirit should have 134a. 93's can go either way. In any case without a license, you can't buy R12, so you would convert it to 134a anyway. All you do is buy the adapters, and fill it up.

What type of freon is in GMC trucks of 1987?

R12.... In 1994 R134a was required, but some changed earlier. Yours may have been converted. If the service ports are threaded it still has R12. Hope this helps.

If my air conditioning condenser is damaged and the air conditioning system now fails to blow chilled air, is this a loss of Freon? If so its poisonous, so I am under the impression I should not attempt to...

Hi.

The freon is not poisonous. The gas currently in use is the R134 (no HFC's) replacing the old R12.

You can replace the condenser and then you have to charge the system with the right amount of gas and some lubricant.

Can I change my ac compressor on my 98 dodge ram 1500 myself. Concerned about refilling and air in the system.

Replacing the compressor is strictly a mechanical task but recharging the system isn't and if there is still coolant in the system, it shouldn't be vented into ambient air.
Although Dupont managed to get the old coolant type banned, they only did it so they could sell us the new stuff (R134) which, for some reason, ALSO says on the containers that it STILL shouldn't be released into the atmosphere. The whole change was a scam perpetrated on us by collusion between the EPA and Dupont.

Directions to convert a 1994 Nissan Quest from r12 freon r134a

used to be a big deal. today, you can buy kit from autozone or other auto store and do it yourself. Need to discharge R12 into reclaimer so it does not go into air and pollute air.

Then, install R134a fittings on lines, add r134a feon in proper amount with new oil. leave old oil in system. you can buy cans with oil already in the can with the freon. probably need about 6 ounces of oil.
lot's of websites tell how to do this. vidoes on line too.

good luck

Help charging the a/c

Check your engine compartment for a sticker that indicates the type of refrigerant used on that car....if it's R12 (like my 1993 Dodge) you cannot buy R12 without an HVAC tecnician license. If it is R134a, you can buy a can of refrigerant at any parts store....follow the directions on the can to recharge the system.
