Question about 2000 Ford Taurus
Hello. I have a 1996 Taurus LX with a 2000 Duratec 4 valve "SHO" motor in it. I have not taken a tool to it to figure out whats wrong. Just need to be pointed in the right direction. The belt is slipping, it is awfully random though. Sometimes at idle, sometimes under soft, medium and even hard acceleration (Rolling into, not abrupt) What should I check, and more importantly when replacing this belt due to age whats suggested to be replaced as well. Thank you Fellow FixYa!
Sounds like the tensioner needs to be replaced... tho it could be the belt has just stretched with age. the tensioner is a pulley (wheel) that doesn't drive anything. when you remove the belt tho ... it provides constant tension on the belt to keep it tight. as far as what belt you need.... stop in at autozone (if you are in the states... tell them the year and model of the car and the type of motor.... they will make sure you get the right belt.
Please take a moment to rate this solution .. thanks
