Sounds like you want to do this yourself. I don't blame you. I fix my own vehicles.
The best and easiest way for you is to buy a Chilton manual for your car at the autoparts store. The book runs about $20
This book is a do-it-yourself bible. It will show you everything you need to know on how to do maintenance and repair on your vehicle.

As for the water pump, it's pretty much a replacement thing. Fixing or repairing it is impossible unless you have a machine shop.

My son took his car to Ramona tire shop because his 2006 mustang was overheating thay said the problem is this

they are not qualified to repair a wheel barrow
your son is wasting his money and time dealing with them
the first test for overheating is a compression test to check for head gasket or cracked head/s
water pumps do not cause over heating as they are only water circulators
thermostats often do and if not installed correctly will still cause a problem
find yourself an accredited service center with experience on your make of vehicle and get a proper diagnosis and quote

How to fix a 2002 mitsubishi galant water leak

Depends upon the source of the water leak. Common places to leak are at hose connections, the radiator core, the heater core, or the water pump. Once you have identified the source of the leak, repair or replace parts as needed. If you have a 6-clyinder model, the water pump is located behind the timing cover, driven by the timing belt. Many owners believe that the repair shop is trying to rip them off when thy recommend water pump replacement at timing belt replacement time and opt not to do it since the pump is working. Unfortunately, the new timing belt will cause a different wear pattern on the pump shaft and almost unfailingly, the pump will leak within a few weeks or months after the timing belt is done. Many shop now refuse to replace the timing belt without water pump replacement for this reason, or will make the owner sign a waiver of responsibility if they refuse the additional service/cost.

What does it mean when service engine soon is on in my 99 jimmy?

Not related. The service engine soon lite is operated by the speedometer, so it's just coincidence that it came on soon after the water pump repair.

Took my car to get repaired said it was water cost 800.00 dollars said it would take 7 hrs to fix is this true

A ball park figure would be around $600 with cost of pump and labor with labor being most of cost as placement of pump. But I would say you have the full right to have a second opinon of what is wrong with your car before you pay out that amount. Remember you are the customer and they are the client. And cost difference of thermostat and pump is some bills and pcoket changes as you have shown above.

How do I Know when the water pump leaks, what do I look for? I cannot afford any unwarrented service performed on my car. I have only 53260 miles on it and have had it serviced every 5000 or less miles....

The water pump Has a Little hole placed in it, for that reason. You need to look under the car at the front of the engine you'll see the water pump. And the hole If you see water seeping from the hole the seal is bad in the pump and, should be replaced

Everytime I add coolant or water it instantly leaks bach out under the SUV. It trickles down the oil pan to the ground. Is this leaking from the water pump?

betya booties is is the water pump.try adding water while engine is running ,if the rate of leakage seems less ,it is definately the water pump. iwould take it to a radiator repair shop andthey will check for sure i doubt they will charge you as it only takes aminute , good luck.

Leaking hose in front of engine

This means you have a leak on your cooling system.Be very careful with that as if you are not careful it will end up blowing the head gasket which will be costly to fix.My suggestion is to find the leak, drain the cooling system and fix the leak which will be less costly and easier than having a replacement head gasket.

Dounload of repair manual or info on changing a water pump

Before getting the radiator fixed, get a price on a new one so you don't spend too much on the repair (it might be cheaper to buy a new one). You are right, you do need to replace the water pump, as the shaft bearings are obviously shot. For excellent car repair info check out 'alldata' the diy guide is great, good info and diagrams, one car for under $20 one year access to the site. Let me know how you make out. Good luck Curt
