Question about 1998 Chrysler Concorde

1 Answer

My 98 Chrysler Concorde has 234,000 miles on it. Either when its real hot outside or you drive a short distance and have the motor heated up, it want start back up. It feels overheated. You have to wait 15-30 minutes ti let it cool. Some say its the catalit converter, but that was test fine. We took it to chrysler and they could not figure it out. Its been doing this for 4 years. Whats wrong with my car?

My 2004 Chrysler Concorde keep running hot! The hoses have no leaks, the thermostat has been changed. When the car is in drive but i am stopped it runs hot but when I put it in gear in goes back to normal...

It sounds like you have air in the system. Try having system bled and see if that changes anything. Also make sure that the fans are operational.

How to replace the thermostat on a 2002 chrysler concorde lx 2.7 engine size

The Thermostat is under the connector for the upper radiator hose on the Engine. Trace the upper Radiator hose back to the engine and remove the 2 to 3 bolts holding the engine mounting to the engine. The thermostat is under that. If you don't have the thermostat already you can remove it and replace the cover and drive to the Auto parts store and purchase it then drive back and put the new part in after the engine cools. If you are replacing this because of over heating doing this will tell you if that was truly the problem or if the problem was actually the water pump. Using the vehicle over short distances without the thermostat will not damage your engine in the summer months. It is mainly there for winter months to let the engine warm up before the cooling fluid starts flowing anyway. Heck, I have one vehicle that hasn't had a thermostat in it for 2 years now. Runs great.

Transmission woes.

What's happening is the trans. computer is detecting something wrong. It puts itself into "limp in" mode. Most of the time a sensor is acting up. Go and have you computer (trans.) scanned so you know which sensor is going bad. This is a very common occurrance with all chrysler products. Don't go to Autozone for the scan. Your best bet is to go to a transmission shop.
