1991 Corcisa 2.2 4 cyl. auto trans; rough idle

Rough idle, especially when at operating temp. Idle is OK cold. Seems to run just fine when driving down the road, but at stop signs, has very bad shake. Putting it in neutral helps a little. I have changed spark plugs and wires and cleaned throttle body best I can. New fuel filter and air filter. I know that number two spark plug hole has been stripped and resealed with HeliCoil (?) by previous owner. Low compression in that cylinder. Also has slight coolant leak out of head gasket, front of engine, driver side. No other leaks, oil is clean, in fact, it does not burn oil at all!
Thanks!

I take it by previous comment that the egr valve solution given to you was wrong and i`m betting you checked the vacuum line that went to it. My guess is the catilitic converter is burned out causing loss of compression try just turning idle screw up a little or spend money on new converter That piston compresion on that one kind of worries me i hope it han`t gone to bad yet

Testimonial: "Thanks for your help. I tested the EGR and it seems to be working, also the vacuum lines. New cat conv is probably worth more than the car!. "

It is a bad EGR valve.

1995 jeep gr cherokee laredo jumps when first star in morning and runs rough when ac or heat on

my guess, car unseen.
car has an A/T trans, and all A/T jump from park to drive
selection is made on a cold engine, due to the very fast idle speed.
what was the park and cold idle speed. and out door temps.
the lower out door temps, make idle speed , cold engine, even higher
but when the engine reaches 180F or more and holds, the RPM
is about 800 RPM (the FSM tells the exact amount and does vary for the unstated engine option) so at 800 the tranny don;t lurch, did it on a hot engine. so if idle speeds are wrong say so and say it with engine temps. or its all meaningless.
next :
runs rough, the engine (even parked?) is called misfire.
misfire on a good engine (full compression)
is:
1: bad spark (or never had a tune up ever) every 60k miles.
2: bad fueling. too rich, too lean (low idle) bad injectors (stuck or clogged, or wrong fuel pump pressure or bad Fuel pressure regulator)
3: bad fuel.

there is a test for each possible failure. all very simple test.
it takes $80 in gauge tools to find engine problems.

I bought a second car for utility use; B6000, 1994, p/u, standard trans. Only when starting and running when the engine is cold, it runs very rough and difficult to idle. At normal operating temperatures...

a coolant tempurature sensor will make it run to rich if it is bad. run rough at idle, and produce black smoke, engine may stall out. it also causes retarded timing, slow idle speed, cold hesitation or stumble, poor fuel milage. good-luck!! if light is on check for problem code. this will guide you in the right direction. if no scanner, any auto parts store will scan for free. repost if need be. have a good day!!

Rough Idle when cold runs seems to run ok hot but still almost stalls when you turn on AC and you are at a stop also noticed that the volt meter reads 9v with the AC and the lights on with the AC and...

mcdevito75 here, Sounds like a faulty voltage regulator, it"s 1 unit with the alternator, change the alternator, also the alt. supplies juice to the ignition switch, distributor abd plugs, thus a rough idle due to bad alternator.

I have a 1991 Buick Park Avenue. Runs rough in

Here are the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours.
To correct this problem I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Engine speed hunts on idle. Auto trans slow shift.

The fast idle valve is inside the throttle body. Sometimes it backs out and needs turned back in (it's threaded). This will cause the loping idle.

Get transmission filter changed with new fluid. Honda does not recommend transmission flushing.

1991 toyota 4runner sr5 3.0 v-6

i had the same problem after spending $500.00 for toyota to look at it they didnt fix it and suggested i it was the auto trans and i should get it overhauled costing thousands. i didnt believe them and started to do some of my own research into the problem. the coolant temp sensor at the rear of the intake manifold tells the ecu when the engine is at correct operating temp then allows the auto trans shift into overdrive. to rule out any problems with the auto trans i disconnected the plug to the temp sensor and went for a drive when the engine was cold and it shifted straight away into overdrive no problems. you can't leave this disconnected because the engine is hard to start when cold as the temp sensor also tells the ecu that it is cold and allows the cold start injector to inject more fuel into the engine on cold start up.to overcome this i cut the wire to the sensor plug and installed a switch which i installed into the centre console.now i start the car flick the swith use overdrive then swith back to normal after car has warmed up . engine fault light appers on dash when switched on but doesnt matter. i have had this modification for 2 years now no problems.
