I agree that it should come up and out, not down. Taking the hood off? I would, I think the job will go faster with it out of the way

Why ? If your vehicle has that major of a problem your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop . I 'm sure you don't have the tools to deal with this type repair .

You have an oil leak, have the engine pressure washed top and bottom and drive it, then inspect the engine top and bottom for an oil leak.

What is the correct way to pull a motor out of a 2000 mercury cougar top or bottom

the correct way to remove the engine from an 8th generation Cougar is from the bottom by unbolting the engine cradle and lifting the body high enough to roll it out. Most front wheel drive vehicles are done this way.

Hi, the upstream sensors are at the base of the exhaust manifolds. Bank 1 is in back by the firewall. Bank 2 is in front by the radiator (#7 in picture below).

I have a 2001 mercury cougar with the 2.5L v6 engine and the number 2 cylinder is misfiring. ive replace the spark plugs and wires but it still misfires

Its time to do a injector balance and cylinder leakage test, to determine whether the injector or its circuitry is bad . The leakage test will tell you if the cylinder has a compression leak.

2001 Cougar Rod Knocking in Engine

Your going to need to pull the engine. if you lost oil you most likely have a spun bearing or two. you most likely to completely over haul the engine.

Do not drive it if you want to save it. You are going to need to pull the motor and completely disassemble. Might want to find a friend who really knows what they are doing or just take it to a engine repair shop.

Could get costly.
