Question about 1999 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

Engine will not on a 1999 Hyundai Sonata start.

Daughter drove auto quite a bit with very little gas in it. Finally, the fuel pump quit working. Placed vehicle on an anilazer and pointed to the fuel pump as being bad. I have been told that there is a reset switch under the dash someplace. I have looked but since my eye sight is not very good and I don't know what I'm looking for I have been unable to locate this switch. This is a 1999 Hyundai Sonata and 4 cylendar. Is there such a switch and if so, where is the fuel pump reset switch and waht does it look like?

There is no fuel pump reset switch you will have to actually just have the pump replaced. (sorry) bad news

Vehicle starts runs for 1-2 minutes then quits, Starts right up. Fuel is being shut down.

Also what no one is mentioning is to make sure you have oil pressure, or that the oil pressure sensor is working, alot of newer vehicles run the fuel pumps off of them oil pressure sensor so if your vehicle stops pumping oil and lubricating, it shuts the fuel pump off to protect itself from damage or further damage

If engine is turning over my first and cheapest Thought would be to change the fuel filter(assuming your not out of gas). If your somewhat mechanically inclined (or know someone who is) you can spray some starting fluid or splash a little gas into the carburetor and if the engine fires a little bit that will be it.
Fuel filter location 1999 dodge durango

It could be other things (fuel pump) but without additional info I say start there.

What causes loss of excelleration while driving

It sounds like either your fuel pump has quit or your fuel filter is badly plugged. If you crank it for a while and do not smell gasoline back at the exhaust, your fuel pump has probably quit.

We have 78 Chev, with a 305 engine, It sometimes starts, and runs for a little while, then dies, Changed the fuel pump, did not help, Do have spark. It will start sometimes and will run for a little...

check that small black module under the distributor cap, these are heat sensitive and will quit working if too hot or quit working altogether.

Camry just quit running. I can't hear fuel pump,

The engines oil pressure switch has a third wire which is connected to the fuel pump. The oil pressure gauge may work although the third wire to the pump may be at fault causing your delimma
Once the engines oil pressure reached the normal operating range the computer shuts down the oil switches third wire to the pump and the relay takes over until you shut the emgine off

Car stopped then wouldn't start again

before i reccomend anything, i need more information. ie: does the battery try to turn it over, is the gas old, what noise did it make when it quit, etc. this will help to pin point a problem. right now it could be a fuse, fuel pump/filter, water in the gas tank, bad battery, starter solenoid.
