Question about 2008 Dodge Caliber

1 Answer

Wont always start

My 2008 dodge manual transmission caliber wont always start. The first try, no, wait 5 minutes or so and it starts. I took it to local dodge dealer and they replaced powertrain control module. Still wouldn't start. Left it there and they replaced another control module, started first time, drove home, shut off, 15 minutes later would not start. Three hours later it started after several attempts. This time I drove it to the dealership to be worked on again tomorrow while I had it running. Please help, I need my wheels.

Did anyone check the clutch interlock switch? It's possible the position is out of adjustment. My 2008 SRT4 is right at the bottom. If you don't push the clutch ALL the way down, it won't start.

My 2007 dodge caliber wont start

You are dealing with 2 possible problem. The ignition switch,or the alarm, If you have a alarm problem the vehicle will crank then in 2 seconds shut down, this is because the key is recognized, now if this is the problem roll down a window and disconnect the negative battery terminal, put the key in the ignition but in the off position. After 5 minutes reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on but dont crank the engine leave for 1 minute. Then see if that resolved the issue. Now if its an ignition switch problem crank the engine and slowly let it go.try to keep the key in the position where it stays running. By the way there is a campaign of a recall dealing with a TIPM software update Re-configure ,anti-theft system. Customer satisfaction notice G42. You will have to see the dealer for this campaign.

If you like your car, change every 2,500 miles. Manufacturers say longer, and that seems to work, but oil change is pretty cheap compared to oil related failures...

DO NOT DISCONNECT BATTERY CABLES UNLESS ABSOUTLY NESSARY, cars today have so many sensitive computers in them that its not wise to do that unless all else fails

Go take it to the dealer you should still have a full warranty. If you want to try and do it your self you could void that warranty.
