There was minimal fuel when parked. We have fuel in the tank now and we have spark. There is no fuel in the inline fuel filter. Fuel pump fuse is good.

No humming noise, could it be the fuel pump relay?

What about fuel? Was fuel in the tank when the car was parked years ago? If so, the system has to be flushed and cleaned out, from and including the gas tank to the carb or injectors (all fuel lines). Have you checked for fuel and spark?

When you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump go on (you should hear it make a humming noise). I suspect that even with minimal fuel in the tank when stored, the pump may be inoperable due to gas going bad. The pump picks up the fuel from very low in the tank, so it may be fouled or plugged up (gas turns to 'varnish' with age). Check for power to the pump with a mult-meter tester, if you have power to the pump you are going to have to drop the tank and clean it out, and hopefully be able to clean up the pump and get it to work (a new pump here is about $240- ouch). Good luck, sorry I can't provide an easy fix, but I've done the same thing, having a car off the road for an extended time, and the gas goes bad and creates a big job to get things working again.

Yes it could be, and at about 1 tenth the cost of a fuel pump. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

My 96 Grand Charokee sat for 3 years. I can't get it to start.

What about the fuel, was it drained and the system flushed. Gas turns to goop after this long and will barely burn.

My mountaineer won't start. It sat for a little over a year because of transmission issues. When I finally got a trans for it, it wouldn't start. I replaced all spark plugs and replaced the...

If the engine is turning, but slow, she may need the battery terminals cleaned, if it has sat for over a year, yes, it may need a new battery. If the engine is turning over and she is not cranking up. Standard rules apply... does she have fuel? does she have spark, does she have compression? First thing is easy, get a can of starting fluid and give her a spray in the air filter area during cranking, if she pops off you have spark, which means no fuel. If it does not try to hit, that means no spark and more trouble shooting will need to be done. If it starts on starting fluid, you may have a bad fuel pump. AS gas turns to gunk as it dries up. And that may have gummed up the pump and filter. Hope this helps FixYa up.

There is a 1996 GMC Safary sitting in a driveway for 3 years, It was running before, what is the safest way to make it run again?

Depends if you kept fluids in it. If so Just try to turn it over with a new battery. You old one probably is no good. After a few turns if you have new gas in tank, it should start. I bought a Ford Ranger that sat up for 3 years and it cranked right up.

1996 5 speed honda accord. sat for a year. put in new battery. everything lights up, but car wont start. never had previous problem.

Are you saying the car turns over (cranks) but it does not start? Or, the car is Not turning over?
If it is cranking over but not starting, and it ran fine before sitting for the year, it may be water/moisture in the gas. Try some dry gas, and/or Carb-fuel injection cleaner in your gas tank.
