Question about 1998 Chevrolet Express
I'm having a problem with my 98 Chevy G1500 conversion van. When you reach approximately 30 mph the speedometer starts being erratic...going up to over 100 mph the van will bog down and try to quit. Also the ABS light is coming on. The problem started about 8 months ago. On the way home though the problem seemed to resolve itself then it just died completely and would not start back. We had to be pulled the rest of the way home. The battery ended up testing bad so we replaced it. Someone told us to replace the throttle position sensor and the engine temperature sensor so we did. It ran fine for a couple of months except for bogging down on hills. Now the speedometer is acting up again. We replaced the speed sensor in the transmission and it's still doing the same thing. We have no idea what to do next.
If you have replaced ther speedometer sending unit then your dash cluster is the problem chances are that the sending unit was only part of the problem. the cluster is static sensitive so have a mechanic replace it for you, if your not familiar with newer dash clusters, static electricity can short not part but the whole dash unit which is quite costly, so be sure to have a shop replace it, if your not up to the task

Had same issue in a 2005 Silverado PU. Took it to the dealer. They replaced the instrument cluster ribbon board. The problem never returned. I believe there was an unpublished recall or whatever they call it because they covered the cost even though my warranty was up. Might not be related at all, but passing the info on to you.
