Question about 2003 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

The vehicle will not move, I know it is the tranny

The vehicle stopped and had to be towed-it has about 60k. There were no signs that the tranny was going bad-no slipping or whining noise. The fluid is very dark and seems to be over the full mark. Is there a chance that the problem is just the filter and screen and needing new fluid?

Changing the fluid didn't help. The vehicle does not move. The old fluid was thick and seemed to have a lot of sludge. The tranny probably need rebuilt or replaced. This is a good site to ask questions and the replys are helpful-Thanks

That could be the problem, changing the fluid wouldn't be a bad idea. check underneath the car maybe an electrical connection might have gotten knocked loose on the tranny and needs plugged back in, before paying $$$ for a new tranny.

sounds like you have no engine power. (not tranny slip)]

I have a 93 explorer and the tranny or oil is leaking really bad I think it's the tranny because it only leaks when in gear and its a bad leak it makes a line when I back up and take off or just sit s

Those A5 trannies are junk and can set the vehicle on fire in less than 5 minutes with low fluid. Red fluid is tranny, oil is oil. Rear seal-oil- big repair. Tranny coolant pipes-Tranny fluid-small repair. Replace filter, fluid, and gasket-it's probably over due-and check again for leaks. rear tranny seal leak, average size job.. Never use the stop leak! Throwing flour on the tranny works better-Just kidding.

My Grand Vitara can be switched between 2H, 4H, 4L & N. I just don't know what does the "N" mean? And what is the difference between this "N" and the "N of the gearbox?

N on the gearbox/transmission is Neutral for the transmission. Nuetral meaning that the power is not going anywhere so you are not going to move anywhere. The N next to the 2high, 4high, 4low is for the transfer case in nuetral. The transmission sends power through the transfer case and the transfer case sends the power to the rear wheels or front and rear wheels depending if it is in 2hi, 4hi or 4lo. The N setting for the transfer case is used when towing the vehicle with all wheels on the ground, like people do behind a big RV/motor home.

While driving my car today it just stopped and oil i think started coming out of it then it wouldnt go back or forward without making noise and even then would barely move

I believe you blew your tranny
Go to an Auto wrecker and pick up a used one, it is cheaper Tow it to your mechanic and have him change it His labour will be very high unles he knows you well. 7 to 8hr work plus. If and when replacing have him replace oil and filter on the tranny

Automatic transmission problem

the transmission is dying..... quick, cheap and temporary fix is the to buy a bottle of lucas transmission fluid (the type that thickens the tranny fluid). how many miles do you have on that vehicle ?

Ignation Switch on 2005.5 Jetta TDI

Unlikely to cause damage that is not noticable.  If it was dragged with the wheels not turning, ( tow truck drivers usually know better)  locked by the tranny in Park, unless it is more than a couple of car lengths, should be no problem,   Qualified tow operators know what they are doing (cosmetic damage aside).   If you have ANY doubt, have the repair shop sign a complete statement that you have (already) written about the towing incident, just in case you need it later ... put it in the glovebox with the towing receipt, you will probably never need it.
When you drive it you will know if the tranny is OK.  No worries.
