The problem with this hard steering, is the lower steering shaft to the second u joint. and it is a lot cheeper than a steering rack.

You can check your pump by disconnecting the house that connects the the rack and pinion (passenger side). Have someone start the car and turn the wheel. If the pump is good it should squirt fluid with pressure! If pump is bad there will be zero pressure.

That is how I diagnosed my 04 Maxima.

Either the power steering pump has failed or the steering rack is defective, have the pump checked first the steering rack is very expensive to replace, at least $600

Find out what is causing noise from full steering lock on right and left , from stationery positon

Depends on what the noise sounds like. Some noise can be normal if you are holding the steering wheel at full lock . That is the pressure from the pump pushing hydraulic fluid through the steering box. If it is usually loud at the slightest turn..could be bad steering pump , leaking hose, leaking seal at steering box, even a bad belt.

Noise when steering oil leaking not engine oil

Power Steering will make a bunch of noise when it is low on fluid. Find the spot it is leaking from and fix it, then make sure the fluid level is at full then you are done.

Continuing to let the power steering stay low on fluid can cause the unit to fail.

My ford focus 04 auto makes a grinding noise when the steering is on full lock to the right also the power steering fluid gets low very quickly

you have a power steering leak, when in full lock position the power steering pump is actually sucking in air and this is your noise. you will have to locate the leak and replace the leaking part and fill it to proper level.Ford will accept trans fluid for power steering fluid.
