check power in, power out at the ignition switch...likely it has failed. switch is on the top of the steering column under the dash and is sometimes easier to reach if you disconnect the column from the dash and permit the sterering wheel to rest on the seat.

You don't have a problem with the key portion of the's the electrical part that likely has a malfunction.Since they moved the switch, I hope the electrical part isn't somewhere else now (they keep doin' stuff like this just to confuse me, since I left the business!!!)
Anyhow, wherever the electrical portion of the switch is, you need to look at it!!!

Sometimes makes me wonder if this is an evil game someones playing...This looked like an easy fix with a quick happy ending!!! Well, OK...Check to see if there is a relay that goes between the switch and starter. It should be grouped with a cluster of relays under the hood on a fender or near firewall. Don't let this go too far without good info...get a decent manual like chiltons (or some vehicle -specific one...they usually are around $20 or so.) Check for power at the small trigger wire on starter as well. I have seen starters test good and not be. if there is 12v at the main terminal of the starter and 12v at the trigger wire with the key turned to start, the starter is not good. How did you check the alternator if the engine will not start? Did you charge and load test battery?

Some starters must be aligned for the proper engagement; with chevys it is with shims. Check your shop manual for your car model and vin to find the procedure for setting the proper clearance.

New Battery/starter and still wont crank.

car wont crank or car wont start? I would say your battery cables are bad,, acid gets in from battery and erodes internal cable parts... need a Meter to check it out.. put the meter on battery while someone tries to start it, if the voltage drops from 13.5 to 10 then it is trying to turn over, I always have the new starters tester before I leave a store, they are remanufactured in Malaysa and they use old parts in most of them..

Sounds like starter motor given your slow to no turnover, I assume your new battery has full charge, if not, check with meter, it may be a defective battery, or another issue with connections, did you clean cable connections when you put in new battery? I assume your engine was running properly before battery change and is not partially seized due to overheating or low oil.

Good luck,

Car working fine, suddenly wont start

Be sure it is in fact the right gas cap. Often when you purchase from someone like bumper to bumper etc the parts people get the wrong info. I suggest you go direct to the dealership pickup a cap and see if that solves the problem.
