Question about 1995 Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

95 4runner engine just revs tranny won't go into gear or reverse.

While highway driving (at about 60mph) **** **** a fair bit of fluid (1- 2 quarts) right out the dip and right then and there lost my gears and reverse. fluid smelled burnt when i drained it. could this be the solenoids as mentioned in other posts (#1, #2, lock-up solenoid.)? if so where does one order a solenoid replacement kit? what about the solenoid for the reverse gear? is it do-able for a weekend warrior?

First off, have you changed your trans fluid lately. sounds like you need a trans flush. when you drop the trans pan and replace the filter and fluid you only get 3 to 4 quarts of transfluid. your trans holdt 12 to 15 quarts. so have it flushed completely cost $80 tp $120 but beats buying a new or rebuilt trans. always make sure you have the right amount of trans fluid. underfilling will cause lose of pressure and not shift properly. over filling a trans will cause over pressure and cause worse problems.

Ford e-250 transmission problems

My Econoline 250 with 4.2 lost fluid from hose leak, fixed leak everything was normal for 3 days till I drove it on highway. When it went into overdrive lost forward power. Turned off OD and did ok for a while. Lost forward gears slowly, put in fluid, hard to tell when full. Reverse is fine but have to rev up engine to get forward to engage, then everything is fine at lights and such till take out of drive, then have to rev engine to about 2500rpm to engage drive. Help?

My 98 explorerr wont move in drive and kicks hard but will move in reverse and all of a sudden my fluid level is showing at least 2 quarts to much

hot engine,cold or both>?
quarts? who a quarts gauge,
don't feel bad we had RCH , in the military. (xrated)
wont move is always 1 of 2 things.
1: engine stalled or almost no horse power (torque)
2: tranny MALF!

find out which first.? #1 fact to know.
for sure slush pump trannys that is always and issue.
slips too much, or too little, not in any manual gear box.
we know instantly when power is low (engine) every time.

my guess is engine power is near zero.
is idle below normal (800 hot)?
or too fast? idle?
evidence we need that. to wax smarter.
here is your first test:
1; start car select drive,or L, and step on gas (right foot)
2: does car move, sure no. but does RPM look right on engine.?
when the tranny slips the RPM rise and car dont move.
there is no longer a 1 for 1 relation ship engine to wheels
this is slip or as tranny men call it FLARE.
if you have no tachometer, then all this is hopless.
never drive a A/T with no Tachometer.
no way to communicate facts. see?
i have one in my drawer here, just for this case.
a mech, can do this by ear and is impossible to put in to words.

Auto transmission problem in mitsubushi montero suv

Well if sounds like possible a vacuum modulator or if the fluid and filter haven't been changed in say 40,000 miles or more I would recommend changing the tranny fluid and tranny filter.

1992 grand prix transmission slip in reverse

Slow, slipping or no reverse: “lo-reverse” clutches are worn out, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit. It is possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from its cage in the case in the trans may help (must remove valvebody), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as Lucas Transmission additive or other seal restorer product. May also have worn boost valve (can replace in the pan).

Thank you for using fixya and good luck

I have a 1999 Saturn SL 2. The transmission fluid is not registering until 5 quarts and then won't register again. The car got stuck in low. Even in park it goes forward. It will not go over 30 mph and the...

The Saturn TAAT takes 6.5 quarts when empty and roughly 4.5-5.5 quarts when doing a drain and refill.

The proper way to check the fluid is to take the car on the highway for about 15 miles of highway driving. This will get the transmission up to operating temperature. Idling will do no good for fluid that is just being circulated and needs to get warm.

Then return to your driveway and place the vehicle in park and keep it running. Pop the hood and look for the red dipstick just left of your battery. That is the transmission dipstick. Pull it out and clean it off then quickly put it back in completely and take it back out (do this somewhat rapidly). Get a reading and repeat to get accurate results.

There is no "check plug hole" that diagram is not correct and the 99 S-series does not look like that. There is no "fill cap" all ATF is entered through the dipstick via a funnel.

Next check your shifter cable where it attaches to the top of the transmission. If you look behind your behind directly down towards the ground you can see a half disc shaped black plastic piece. This is the range sensor. This is where the cable attaches to the transmission. If it is loose or incorrectly calibrated to the proper gear then the transmission will not correspond to the correct gear on the shifter inside the car.

1995 JEEP WRANGLER Automatic 4 cyl. gears starting to slip

ck the condition of the tranny fluid. If the fluid is very dark, it will need changing. Another problem with the jeep auto tranny is that if the fluid has not been changed in a long time, the clutch material will wear and clog the tranny filter inside the pan.If there is alot of clutch material in the pan and you change the fluid and filter, sometimes the tranny won't work because the clutches are worn out too much.

Auto transmission slips then grabs

first thing i would try is changing the transmission fluid out and filter, i beleive its almost 8 quarts. use a full quart of lucas transmission additive with the new fluid. if this doesn't help, the transmission will either need replaced or rebuilt
