there are about 13 combinations of engines in that vehicle ... you'll have to be specific about what motor you have.

Dexron II and 6.2 Litres to drain and fill it (filter change). if there is not a dipstick near the firewall leading to the transmission.... i'll have a look for the procedure to check the fluid in that car.

have the motor running .... start in park... shift thru all the gears ending in park..... then check the level... i believe the dipstick has hot and cold levels marked.

How much transmission fluid do you need to fill a 2002 Izuzu Rodeo

in the absence of car manual, fill initially with one liter/qrt of transmission fluid. check for leaks and start engine. with transmission in park, slowly add transmission fluid with engine at idle. constantly monitor transmission fluid level with vehicle on level position until fluid level in "cold", then drive vehicle approximately for one mile until fluid is warmed up or hot. recheck fluid level with engine idling and on park. Add if necessary until fluid level in Hot position in dip stick. then your done. write down how much fluid you added for future reference.

How much fluid do we need to fell transmission

It varies by make. Remember most transmission fluid is locked into the torque converter and didn't come out even when you changed the filter. So knowing the capacity isn't helpful. Filling from a filter change usually doesn't take much fluid. Maybe 3-5 quarts. Just add fluid one quart at a time with the engine off. Start the engine with the transmission in neutral and check fluid level. Repeat this process until it reaches the cold full mark. Then start the engine and let it warm to operating temperature. Check the fluid level again, it should now be on the hot mark. If it's not add some more until it is. Remember all checks should be done with the engine running and transmission in neutral but you should only add fluid with the engine off for safety reasons.

Pt cruiser transmission stick

I would go by the hot reading of the cars transmission fluid. Check while in park and idling, check as you stated on level ground. Wait until the car temperature reaches normal operating temperature then check the fluid, not once but at least two, even three times to make sure your reading is accurate. If it shows a cold reading still then add fluid until it is within the hot reading area/marks. NOTE: be aware that when it says hot meaning the fluid in the transmission is hot, not just the cars motor. So you may want to drive it around to warm it up then come back and park it on a level surface and leave it running. Wait 5 mins or so then go out and check the fluid, again it should read between the hot marks if not, add until it does. Hope this clarifies the proper way to check your transmission fluid.

1998 honda passport auto transmission slips

CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO SEE IF IT IS LOW. THERE SHOULD BE A COLD LEVEL AND A HOT LEVEL. WITH THE TRANS IN PARK AND HOT, ENGINE RUNNING PULL THE DIPSTICK TO SEE IF THE TRANS NEEDS FLUID. WHEN ADDING, MAKE SURE THE PROPER FLUID IS USED. IF THE TRANS FLUID LEVEL IS OK BUT THE TRANS FLUID SMELLS BURNED OR IS VERY DARK THEN HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED WITH FLUID AND FILTER. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR ANY COMMENTS. BEST OF LUCK

How long before a transmission is hot enough to slip

It should not be a matter of how hot, but when. If it only happens when the car is hot then I would check the level. While checking the level, I would see if there is any blackish stuff in the fluid. If there is then I would have your tranny rebuilt because the clutch material is breaking down and could be the cause of the slipage.

Steering gear fluid capacity and type of manual trasmission fluid?

Hello Dave,
I own a 1988 Ram 50 5-Standard and will go off my own experiences to answer this question.
I use a synthetic 80W transmission fluid.
If you know what is/was already in there; my recommendation is not to change the grade of oil in the transmission unless it is necessary because of driving conditions or vechicle requirements (i.e. towing/hauling/efficiency).
Anyway the Ram 50 Manual 4 & 5 Speed transmissions take a range of fluid grades from 70W-90W. You can use this in both conventional and synthetic oils.

For the power steering, universal power steering fluid works the best, and I honestly don't know the exact amount to put in Ram 50, but may I suggest you purchase ~20oz. Fill it half with half the bottle, then check the dipstick, then put in half of that half-bottle (a quarter of the bottle in), check, and repeat until you get it to the appropriate level.

Correct! the term box (by pauldonp) was used instead transmission. I agree with given solution. It is important to maintain hydraulic fluid level between marks, when engine is at operating temperature and lever at position "P".
If there are fluid leaks must be repaired.
