Question about Jeep Liberty

1 Answer

Vehicle will not start

I have a jeep liberty 2005. The vehicle has been running fine, until today 4/16/09. I turned off the vehicle at a friends house, ten minutes later I got back in the vehicle and started the engine. As soon as I started the engine the engine immediately died, there was no sputtering, no slow die, the engine just turned off. I tried to turn the engine back on and the engine goes through all the motions you can hear the engine cranking but no turn over, as if there was no gas getting to the engine. V-6 3.7L Plugs changed in November 09, regular oil change, vehicle has 130,500 miles, six speed manual transmission.

We have the same exact problem with our 2008 Jeep Liberty. Our vehicle also will act like it's going to start and then shut off.

I have a jeep 2003 120,000 km and I can drive for a bit but if I shut it off to just run into the store it will not turn over (catch) if I let it sit for 15-20 min its fine again its like it thinks it is over heated but it really isn't the check engine light was on but it has since turned off.

Most likely a fuel pump at that milage. Pressure or presence of fuel must be tested. Try pouring a little down throttle body or spray eather or carb cleaner. If it starts for a moment then is is a fuel delivery issue.

Jeep liberty 2005 crd start and engine goes off after four seconds

To start with, most models have a fuel pump relay that gives the pump voltage until the computer sees that the engine is running.
Sounds like the computer is not knowing the engine is running, so there is no power to the pump after it starts.
It could also be something with the anti-theft system.
Is the check engine light on ?

I am an officer at a police dept. doing an investigation on a stolen 2005 jeep liberty. the steering column was taken appart but no wires were cut. can this vehicle run without its key?

Any vehicle can be run without a key. Most times it will be obvious that tampering has taken place. If you can put a screwdriver into the key slot and are able to turn the lock, the lock was defeated. In fact, unless the lock was defeated, the vehicle's steering lock would preclude being able to actually drive the vehicle. If everything is intact, it sounds like the owner was looking to cash in on insurance.

Tried to start jeep liberty 2005 went and opened

Aside from the part about the remote, I would first check to make sure the battery has a solid 12volts in it and that the terminal connections are clean. After this, then check to see if operation has been restored. Jumping across a battery with bad connection often prevents the vehicle from starting. Also try closing the doors and then locking and unlocking drivers door with the key itself. This should re-set the security system
