Are you trying to say that the spark plugs aren't sparking or the coil pack isn't giving current to the spark plug?

Well let me give you a brief understanding of the electrical ignition system.

The PCM controls the ground circuit for the ignition coil ground circuit. So basically the PCM determines when to open and close the ground circuit for each individual ignition coil, therefore making it give power to the spark plug or not.

The ignition coils get there power from a power distribution center which as an ASD (Automatic Shut Down) Relay located inside of it. So your problem may lay within this.

Also, like you said, you may need to check the crankshaft and camshaft sensors because they give information to the PCM which then calculates the best timing for the system.

To check the crankshaft sensor first check the harness and test to see if the sensor is getting 5.0 volts. To do this you need to connect the positive end of a voltmeter to the orange wire terminal and the negative lead the the black/lt blue wire terminal at the harness connector. Then turn on the ignition and check the voltage. If voltage isn't right check the wiring between the PCM and the sensor.

If you are getting the correct voltage next check the sensor itself. You need to reconnect the harness to the sensor and you need an analog voltmeter. Then you need to backprobe the harness, which is sliding the probes from the meter into the wire side of the harness, if you meter has clips then get a sharp pin and slide into the harness and clip the meter to the pin.

Checking the Crankshaft Position Sensor

With the sensor connected, backprobe the gray/black wire terminal of the sensor connector to the positive lead on the analog meter and the negative lead connects to an engine ground. Turn the ignition key On and with a breaker bar and sockey manually turn the crankshaft clockwise. Do one full revolution and keep an eye on the meter, if you get readings of 5.0 volts then the sensor is good if not replace the sensor.

Checking the Camshaft Position Sensor

Again check the harness for the sensor first. The positive lead of an analog voltmeter connects to the orange wire terminal and the negative lead to the black/lt blue wire terminal. Turn ignition on and you should get approx. 5.0 volts. If voltage is incorrect check the wiring.

If wiring the harness is giving adequate power now check the sensor. Its the same idea used to check the crankshaft sensor but this time connect the power lead of the meter to the backprobe connected to the tan/yellow wire terminal and the ground lead to a good ground. Turn ignition On position and manual turn the crankshaft clockwise a full revolution while also checking for the meter to fluctuate between 0.0 and 5.0 volts. If you don't get the proper reading then the sensor is bad.

This should help solve your problem.

My car is missing need the wireing diagram for a 2003 mitsubishi galant es 2.4 ltr.

From the timing belt to the transmission the fireing orders are 1234 One and three fired the same time 2 and 4 fire the same time. Pull all the plugs for the spark plug on them and lay them across the top of the motor with plugs in them you can see which ones fire at what time. The spark plugs need to be touching a grounded part of the engine to fire. This also will help you find out if you have bad wires.

Truck is not firing on 3 cylinders yet it runs.. Runs really rough, back fires, under powered.. Plugs are Wet, Firing order is correct. New Spark plug cables. Don't know that is wrong! Please Help

Check for spark at the plug ( may have coil problem).
If spark is good then do a compression check. Pressure shouldn't be less than 75% of known good cylinders.

No spark to engine 1991 ford pickup

It can be faulty or dirty spark plug itselfd. Also for reference get the fuel level checked. Is the fuel tank is empty or near to empty.
Try cleaning the spark plugs and then see if that is helpin. On some cases the black carbon layer gets collected on the spark plugs and that causes the problem,so cleaning the plugs help. But if its not helping, then spark plug has to be replaced.Spark plugs get power from ignition coil to ignite sparks. If ignitioncoils are faulty then also there will no spark.--------------

To troubleshot and confirm the issue,i suggest you to go through the help links provided below, check the procedure and it will help you to confirm the issue in your case.

Replaced sparkplugs and sparkplug wires, now runs rough. I checked connections all tight. check firing orger, looks right. run good till I touched it. Help.

Check the firing order with the firing order diagram that I have uploaded, and if that does not solve the problem then remove the spark plugs and be certain that there is an even spark plug gap between all of the spark plugs, (see the emission label under the hood for the correct spark plug gap) and be certain that there is not any split-fire or multi-fire spark plugs installed in the engine, because those plugs will not work with an OBD-II system, and a random mis-fire is the least that they will cause if installed in an OBD-II controlled vehicle.

Firing Order diagram for 2006 Ford Explorer

Hope this helps. The ignition coil:
  • changes low-voltage pulses from the PCM to high-voltage pulses.
  • fires 2 spark plugs simultaneously.
  • has 3 transformers.
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 1 and 5
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 2 and 6
    • One transformer fires the spark plugs for cylinders 3 and 4
Spark plug wires:
  • carry high-voltage pulses from the ignition coil to the spark plugs.
The spark plugs:
  • change high-voltage pulses to spark at the gap, which ignites the fuel and air mixture.
The firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6.

1984 pontiac bonnerville plug firing order photo

Hi,
I don't know your engine size, but the link below is a picture of the GM small block firing order with distributor.
The firing order, which should be cast into the intake manifold, for the chevy small block V8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The firing order is the numerical sequence in which the spark plugs are fired. The insertion position of each spark plug wire around the circumference of the distributor cap can be found according to a clock face. The insertion sequence determines the firing order. The firing order is followed clockwise around the distributor cap starting from the 6:30 position with the 6:30 position being the number one cylinder spark plug wire.

Hope this helps...
