Question about 1998 Cadillac DeVille

Abs light and traction light on

I just changed the wheel bearings on it and the lights are on now, and I don't know what's wrong with it

    They had the sensor and that's what I though so I doulbe checked it and they were both fine and connected

    U are going to need the dealer to check this out, the test requires a dealer only ABS capable scanner.

    did u leave the wheel speed sensors disconnected or use a wheel bearing and hub without a speed sensor exciter ring?

What will cause a rear axle bearing to go bad on one axle 3 times in two months?


the axle could be bent or damaged, the differential housing could be damaged, could be wrong bearing. you don`t say if this is a rear wheel drive you have or just a front wheel drive. there are front wheel drive bearings that have problems even new, because of manufacturing problems or inferior materials. try a different manufacture for a bearing.

My rear wheel is tilting out at the top.What's wrong ?


Probably a really loose wheel bearing.Jack it up and put it on jackstands very securely ,and chock a front wheel front and back an
d check for
play (don't set emergency brake for this test)
Grasp the top and bottom of tire and see if you can wobble it.Roll it and listen for roughness.A bad bearing with play in it will usually cause a drum brake vehicle to drag the brake shoes,but yours may be disc brakes which may not show this problem. don-ohio

What is the foot pounds for the front wheel bearings on a 1995 chrysler cirrus


Hello, If you Chrysler has replaceable wheel bearings and seal. This is the way it goes---pack the wheel bearing with new grease-install the bearing in the wheel nub--install new back wheel seal--coat the axle shaft with grease lightly, thing coat-----install wheel hub on to axle shaft...be careful here don't damage the rear hub seal------------insert front race washer---install axle shaft nut--tighten nut down wheel nut until it is firm with water pump pliers----spin the hub/with tire mounted.
(the wheel and hub will turn but not freely)----take the pliers and back off the axle nut 1/4 turn----now spin the wheel and axle hub, it should spin freely---now if doesn't spin freely---back off the axle nut about 1/16 or 1/32 (or just a little bit)-----now, spin the wheel and hub and if turn freely------------Now grab the top of the wheel/tire and move it back and forth.-----if there is some movement ---try tighten the axle nut just a little little bit, unit the one can barely feel some little movement in the wheel/tire and hub.-----------Now, spin the wheel/tire and hub and it should also turn freely.

If it does----install new and correct size of cotter pin and bent the ends around the axle nut.----

coat the inside of the hub cup with grease. Now, use an rubber or plastic hammer to install the cup on the wheel/tire hub. You are finished with one wheel bearing maintenance. Now do the other side.



I really don't know if you Chrysler Cirrus has replaceable wheel bearing. All the auto/trucks have replaceable hubs, that means that the replacement is total hub with axle shaft, sealed bearings, and seals. This is bolt to each wheel steering hub. This work to remove these one unit hubs.

Four bolts hold the axle hub to the steering hub. Hear is the problem!! it has rusted to the steering hub. Also, these hubs cost more than replacing bearings, races, seals to cool turn of $180 to $250+ I wish you luck in your replacement of wheel bearing on your Chrysler. GB..stewbison

Front passenger brake is pulsing and there is no abs light on in my 1997 pontiac grand prix.I believe it might be abs sensor but don't know where to find it in wheel assembly.


A front brake pulsing with no ABS light is a rotor that is no longer true i.e warped. Pull off the tire and rotate the rotor. Hold a straight edge (ruler) across the outside of the rotor as your rotating the rotor. You will note that it changes distance on the straight edge / ruler as it rotates. (in out wobble) A good way to test for an out of true rotor is to drive at about 45 miles and hour and really stand on the brakes (do not lock them up) If the steering wheel and or brake pedal pulsate... you most likely have a rotor problem. If your rotor has never been "turned" it is probably time to do so.

The ABS sensor is behind the rotor on the lower control arm pointed outward toward the rotor with a flat button face. You can not see the button face with the rotor installed. If the sensor is bad you will have an ABS light. I think your troubleshooting the wrong problem. i.e rotor vs your current focus of the ABS sensor.

I would like some feed back on the running dynamic on the road brake test.

My service traction light is one and my abs light is on


The abs makes the traction control work so fix the ABS first. The most common thing thea haqppens are the wheel speed sensers fail. In the front wheels the speed senser is incorperated into the front wheel bearing. these bearings are well known to fail at about 100 thousand miles and can fail aqs early as 80 thousand miles and most all of them fail before 140. You might notice a roaring sound ( like noisiy treaded tires) You can jack up one front wheel at a time and get in the car as your driving it and put the car in gear and run the car ( not moving but thwe trie is turing and listen for noise. I fht e wheel makes a roaring sound that gets worse as you go faster that wheel bearing is bad. Don't go over about 50 as with one tire on the groung the other that is turning, is going twice that fast or 100 MPH at 50 on the speedometer. Do the same test on the other wheel and if it's quiter or quite just change the noisy one. Once changed you just drive the car and the new wheel speed senmser will be reconized and the ABS light will go out as will the trac off light. If your ready to change both wheel bearings do so as they both have the same miles on them just not nessarily the same potholes and other rough pavement that makes them wear out faster. If thebearings are quite then you need to inspect the wires coming outr of the back of the wheel bearing.. Thjese wires get into troble and get unplugged or break the wire. If you havwe asscess to a scasnner that will address ABS systems it'll point out the ABS problem. Things that happen other than the wheel speed sensers are fuses blown for other reasons. The accumulater motor failure or extreamly cold weather the accumulate motor locks up in cold and blows the fuse. Thwe motors seldom fail but they can and do. Some veicals are nerer serviced and the brake fluild accumulates moisture ( as it's supossed to) and peaple never get the brakeing system seviced and the old brake fluild can freeze in cold weather and start croduing things. The Traction control sysem uses the brakes to control wheel spin by puting on the brake on the spinning wheel. If the system notices a wheel spinning. (Using the wheel speed sensers) So until the ABS is fixed don't try to fix the traction control system as it truly is part of the ABS systyem.

My expert advice is to take it to a shop. The idea that wheel bearings are easy is not true - and if done wrong could cost you your life.
Please consider letting a professional do it as it is costly just to purchase the tools and is dangerous even with the car on jack stands.
