same problem. I think it is time to replace switch. I put a nail up a hole under the streeting column to push something and wiggle the streeting wheel, shake the gear shifter, and scream. Now I got the key out and now I can slide it in but cannot turn the switch.

Try this video and see if it can help you out a bit, I made it a few days ago.

Also, the part that is failing is the Shift Lock Solenoid, its right under your steering column and its white.

Ignition switch won't release key when it is put in park. But when I removed switch and key tumbler, the key tumbler/cylinder releases key. Why won't the key release when it is in park?

Most newer models have a safety feature called
shift interlock. This prevents the key from being turned back
to the lock position if you forget to place the gear selector in park.
Depending on the model,
If it uses a cable, it may be sticking or needs adjusting.
If it uses an electrical solenoid. may be blown fuse or park switch.
Tap, shake, and pull up on the shifter and make sure it's in park.

MY ignition want turn forward or backward so i can get the lock pushed in to pull the tumbler out any solutions?

will try to assist you.are you parked on a hill? or parked somewhere as to out the transmission in a "bind"? try turning your key switch to the on position and at the same time you're attempting to turn the key to on,wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, like you're turning to left or right. sometimes the steering lock binds when the cars parked on a hill,or parked against a curb.try to turn the steering wheel to the left, while turning the key to "on" some times rocking the car back and forth will free up the locked steering column.while turning the key to the "start" position of course. try this and if this does'nt help you" please repost your question to thank you for seeking out we look forward to assisting you in your future automotive,or household questions with appliances,or just about anything.there are experts ready to assist you 24/7

2001 Chrysler T&C LT 3.8L FWD Steering wheel and shifter is locked and key will not turn from the off position. Have tried turning the wheel in either direction while trying to turn the key. Have...

Did you pull ******* the steering wheel on the direction that it is locked? Usually rare... But I have seen the springs go bad with the tumblers in the key cylinder. You could attempt to thump under the key cylinder to attempt to bounce the tumblers while moving the key back and forth.

When i put the key in the ignition the car beeps but it wont let me turn the key at all..

Try rocking the steering wheel back and forth, if the wheel was turned too sharp when the car was shut off the steering lock is putting too much pressure on the tumbler for the key to turn. If that doesn't work you will have to have the key and tumbler replaced.

Key does not turn in ignition

Try turning the steering wheel back and forth with slight pressure on the key in case the steering lock is binding. Also check the transmission is in park in case there is an intelock. You could have a binding tumbler in the lock so spray some wd40 into the lock and tap it gently with the back of a screwdriver. Try the spare key in case it is worn or damaged.

Key will not turn to off and battery dies after several minutes

chances are it is your tumbler or parking gear switch. you can replace the tumbler (ignition switch) or the parking gear switch is not recognizing that the vehicle is in park and preventing the key from being turned off

Key not turning, steering not locking, trans in

GM has had problems with the ignitions they use for years. Only option is to replace the tumbler assembly (ignition switch). If you have security installed theirs a special procedure to relearn the key.
