Question about 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis
Went to autozone to check why the check engine light was on but the assistant said that the diagnostics systems is not reading that maybe a fuse is blown
Hi. there are two reasons for a non scan when dealing with the diagnostic CPU. one is user error. most auto zone techs are not trained to use the diagnostic equipment correctly and if a problem comes up and they cant get a reading, the usually will blame the non scan on the patrons vehicle. Even if you had a few blown fuses in this vehicle, you should be able to still grab a code. doesn't matter if the fuse is blown. The only technical error that can exist in your vehicle that could block a proper scan would be a ecm/pcm failure or, a damaged input port that is used by the diagnostic cpu to download the trouble codes.
I recommend first, taking it to the dealership so that you can get a professional diagnostic scan run by a real technician. If there is another scan error once more, it will most likely be the input port under the dash that is damaged or the vehicles cpu may be damaged as well.
Please rate and god bless:)

When the Check Engine light is turned on the computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible faults that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.
