Question about 2005 GMC Envoy

Dealer says transmission is gone

I have 98k miles on 2005 envoy xl. In Feb 08 I got transmission serviced at the dealership, fluid and internal filter changed. Now in April 09, the transmission is gone. No second and third gears and the fluid is so burned they cannot tell what the problem was. Should that happen 1 yr later after service?? They, the dealership, wants to charge me $500 to break it down to see IF they can figure out what happened.

Driven more in the city, No leaking, no towing. No other service done on it since Feb08 other than the normal oil change.

Has the car been driven more on the highway or city?

Did you notice any leaks/oil spots under it?

    Have you been towing anything?

If the cooling system was getting residue built up, the act of servicing might have aggravated the problem, but there is not really any way to say for sure if it was caused by service or was just ready to plug up on its own. Has any other service been done (air conditioning repairs, etc) where a cooling line might have been pinched off?

It sounds like it just failed for whatever reason. It's 50/50 whether there was anything done that could have caused the problem (filter installed incorrectly or wrong part?) The key now is to look for the solution. Make sure that the cooler is working when the transmission gets fixed or replaced so that isn't a problem. Get a good warranty, and I would say it's up to you, but I would think about having the trans fixed somewhere other than where the service was done that might have caused it. They aren't going to tell you if they find out that they screwed up, and letting them 'take a look' is an opportunity to hide anything they did. Have whoever takes it apart look for possible causes and document it.

Noisy transfer case on 2005 gmcenvoy

When was the last time the transfer case fluid was changed? This service needs to be done every 50,000 miles. If it is making noise, it may be too late already. The only fluid to be used is GM AutoTrak II, you can get it at any GM dealer.

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy XL with 150,000+ miles and an automatic transmission. Starting this week, the engin began to rev very high as it transitioned from 1st to 2nd gear. it's very sluggish. Once I get it...

Sure sounds like a slipping transmission to me. When is the last time you changed the transmission fluid? Before you go dumping $2,600 for a new transmission, I'd do a transmission fluid change first. If you do change the fluid, use Dextron 6, it's GM's new transmission fluid, much better than the fluid you have now. Not to scare you, but my transmission went out at about 100k miles, so you're doing good if it hasn't been rebuilt yet.

either the transmission bands need to be adjusted or the solenoid is bad and needs to be replaced. The first thing would be to change tranny fluid and filter.

What service should be performed at 90,000 miles on a 2003 GMC Envoy XL?

I would look into a tune-up as the spark plugs are a common cause of issues on this vehicle. I would at the very least remove the plugs and inspect them. If they are fine then it may be a clogged fuel filter.
Check the coolant and oil level

Got a 'recommended' tranny fluid exchange at 126K miles...not 'service engine light" on with codes, tranny sticking in drive less than 1500 miles later. planning to go back to the dealership to find out...

No...I recommend complete transmission fluid exchange every 50 to 75K miles. When I say "complete" that includes torque converter and radiator cooler.
Transmission oil never wears out but the detergents and conditioners in the oil do and filters get plugged with normal wear and tear debris.
Performing the complete exchange will help prolong the transmissions life and keep it preforming properly.
I would guess there is another problem causing your issue or the dealer may have left something loose during the service.
I would return to the dealer and explain your problem and see what they do recommend and ask them to scan the vehicle for trouble codes as there may be a "B" code that would not turn the service engine light on.
Good luck,

Can you tell me what should be done on a 90,000 mile servicing for a 2005 honda Accord. I am getting different quotes from different dealerships/facilities. Thank you!

You need to have the cam belt & water pump replaced at 110,000 miles not 90,000. You should have the transmission fluid changed, brakes & all hoses inspected. The coolant should be drained, thermostat replaced and fresh coolant installed. Of course the air & cabin filter should be replaced every 30,000 miles. The fuel filter is permanent and needs no replacing. Brake fluid should be changed unless you have already had this done. Serpentine belt replaced at 110,000 miles with the cam belt.

I have a low speed shudder that is around 30-40 mph. I have had this occur in the past and changing the transmission fluid makes it go away. I have 160,000 miles on 2004 Endeavor that is just about 6 years...

DO NOT USE ANY OTHER FLUID OTHER THAN MITSUBISHI FLUID!!!! Any other fluid other than Mitsubishi fluid will blow the torque converter these transmission are very picky. Have a COMPLETE fluid tranny flush with Mitsubishi ATF Fluid. If your truck is an AWD that had a recall on the drive shaft, if you have an AWD and did not experience this before you have just been lucky and now had your luck run out at 160K. I would however put my money on the use of non-Mitsubishi transmission fluid.
