Question about 2006 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Ford Diagnostic Tool

I Have a 2006 explorer xlt and 2001 escape. I dont want $4000.00 worth of equipment but would like to have more than a cheap scanner from parts house to diagnose my ford vehicles. Is there reasonably priced diagnostic tools/software that i can purchase to use at home. I have seen some such as obdcom for $89 but I want to make sure I am getting the best scan coverage for my vehicles.

There are a couple of decisions you will need to make before looking at them. How much to you want to be able to do? Do you want to be able to just retrieve trouble codes? Do you want to be able to communicate with all of the modules on the vehicle? Do you want data logger capability so you can monitor data to help pin-point problems?
Most cheap scan tools only communicate with the PCM(powertrain control module) but for example your 2006 explorer has a HSC(high speed can network) and a MSC(medium speed can network). The HSC depending on options may have 8 modules and the MSC may have 9 modules depending on options.
The Escape uses 2 networks called SCP(standard corporate protocal) and a ISO( international standards organization ) and it has 5 modules.
So you would have to make sure that what ever scan tool you are looking at can communicate with these types of networks.

All of my experience has been strictly with Ford and their scan tools so I can not tell you a specific one to buy. I would suspect with your budget you will probably do better with one that is PC based. But I mainly wanted you to be aware of the different networks and they have different buss speeds so some will work good with one but not work at all with another.

Here is a pretty good article I read on scan tools and it has several links at the bottom.

MAC tools have some pretty decent stuff also.

Here is another one that maybe along the line you want.

Donnie based on all the research I have seen so far on the web I would say the autoenginuity is the one I would recommend, If it does everything they say it does.

    http://www.autoenginuity.com/products-so...

I would definitely recommend doing a goggle search and read more about them but it is the only one that states with the enhanced option it can communicate with the other modules and not just the PCM and it seems pretty reasonable in price if they don't kill you with the updates.

Replaced tcc 2006 Ford Escape XLT. Shifter moves, accelerates, but does not move?

Replace the valve body, no that would gain you nothing. The P0741 is a Torque converter fault, it is either not locking up or is stuck off, but that would not stop the car from moving. I suggest you seek professional help from a transmission repair shop.

Abs light on 2002 ford explorer xlt

The ABS system means the Antilock Brake System. If the ABS lights on the dashboard permanently the ABS system is faulty. You must access the ABS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ABS ECU, in other words reset the ABS system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.
