Question about 1997 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

1997 Dodge Caravan speedometer goes haywire. Once the engine is driving for awhile the speedometer jumps back and forth continuously. 50 to 80 to 120..back and forth and the engine starts to stall and takes a while to regain speed. Any suggestions?

the cluster and the low power issue are un related. check your engine computer at a parts store. if there is an EGR code, it may be the problem.

I have a 1999 dodge carvan sport and today it started running wired, the speedometer will jump all over the place and it jumps not slips but jumps...acclerates on its own and when i got home turnred it off...

The speedometer is part of the instrument cluster. I would suggest you buy one on ebay that has been recycled. If the one from the junkyard does the same thing then the problem is probably in the body control module (BCM). I hope this helps.

Transmission is not shifting gears while driving

First check fluid level. is check engine light on? is speedometer working? this can be caused by a malfuncition vehicle speed sensor or a mechanical condition such as a clogged filtre.

1999 Dodge Caravan dash lights won't come back on

your speedometer cable is broken or loose (located behind the gauges and near the transmission). or the electrical connections are loose.

Speedometer problem for a 1997 dodge caravan se 3.3

you have a output speed sensor cuircut issue, scan tool would be helpful for this repair, but here goes, the sesor return wire is picking up rf interferance, in the harness, start by searching front of trans , to side fender to tcm, in wheel well area to over wheel well to bulkhead, possible corrsion as well. GOOD LUCK RDJRP

1887 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 6 replaced twice, sensors replaced 4 time, the problem still exists. Engine goes to crawl (maybe computer is in limp fail safe) sticks in low gear....

Went to the Zone and got them to analyze the engine and get the codes.

Speedmeter filling around.......replaced sensor on transmission
Engine acts like it doesn't have fuel....... Seafoamed the throttle body and made sure the carbon on sides and flapper valve was removed. replaced manifold sensor.

Turned the key off and on 5 times to reset the check engine light.

All this fixed for $62 dollars. Fixed it in the parking lot.

Runs great. Now I don't know how long it will last but I know the Seafoam in the throttle body scrub bit really makes thing right about once a month. Also adding gas additives every other tank full to keep fuel injectors clean.
