Hi, I missplaced the plug wires frm the distributor on my 1966 oldsmobile delta 88 425 4brl, help

    this is from a tune up guide.



    firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

    cylinder #1 is on the right as you face the car from the front bumper.

    distributor spins clockwise.

Just go to any auto parts store and ask for a universal kit for a V8 425 Engine, while you are at it if the old cap looks boad get a brass contact cap lasts longer. If they dont have one keep checking around someone will stock it , also If you are handy with a crimp tool, they make a kit for mechanics that sells the wire on a spool, and sell the crip connectors as well the boots. If the guy gives you a dumb look as to duh , or says no such thing I would say Thank You and Walk away after several years of working on cars myself for basic repairs short of going to the dealership to have it done right. Live in a small rural town ? try a big city or do a web search, order on line IF the site has a SSL padlock and the beggining https:// if not I would not trade with some site that does not use even a eTrust or BBB logo My fav is NAPA and they have a AAA discount and next to OEM on part quality.

No spark from distributor spark plugs


Check the middle wire on your distributor. It's the ground for the coil. Granted you have an HEI distributor. If all the wires seem to be just fine, take the ignition module off and take it to your local NAPA. They have a load tester that tests those ignition modules. Have them test it several times. It may test fine the first 2 times, then on the third test, it might fail. It sounds like the module quit working like it should.

Wont turn over changed fuel filter and spark plugs...smell gas also has no spark...


did you test the ignition coil? Distributor cap? test the ohms resistance on the spark plug wires?

My 83 delta started acting like she was out of gas on the highway a few days ago, put bunch of gas in her she still kept acting like shewas loosing all power putt putting then she would die she would...


Hi Cathy! It sounds like your car needs a good tuneup (new sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, distributor cap, fuel filter etc). The lack of power could be related to a bad fuel filter but could also be due to bad spark plugs, a crack in the distributor cap etc. A full tuneup will address all of these areas. Best of luck!

How do you advance the the timing on a 83' delta 88 that don't have a vacuum advanece on the distributor?


Loosen the distributor lockdown and turn the distributor clockwise to ****** ignition timing. Counter-clockwise to Advance.

Firing order for 1966 ford mustang 200 cubic inch


The engine is a 200 CID straight six, the firing order is 153624...

Just pop the distributor cap and have someone crank the engine while you watch the rotor.

How I can determine which hole in the distributor is assigned to the #1 plug wire.
Pull the number one plug. Turn the engine over slowly (with a wrench) while holding your finger over the plug hole. When the air builds (a lot of) pressure you are coming up to the number one spot on the distributor. (the rotor will point to the location of the #1 hole in the distributor.)

Quick methods to disable the engine I have seen people do on the classics:
Close the points by loosening the set screw
Pull the rotor cap
Connect a wire from the coil to ground. (effectively closes the points. Can damage the coil if key is left on.)
Pull the main ignition wire
And there are some tricks at the starter solonoid involving the ballast resistor bypass that is used to provide a hotter spark while cranking. (Two little wires at the starter solonoid - one is crank the other is the ballast bypass.)

Ignition Problems


Try forgetting about all the wires. Run a hot lead to a push-button to energize the small trigger wire on the starter. Run another to a toggle, then to the battery terminal on the distributor and it should work fine...I wouldn't do it this way if I was going to drive it daily but for a demo vehicle that's just fine.
