My car seems to mimic a cough on the highway and i am figuring it is either the Trans. Slipping or a fuel filter. the cheaper fix would be the furl filter but i am not sure. any idea's? it's a Grand Am "GT" not SE

I had a car that sounded like it was sneezing once it turned out to be a pluged exhaust. if you have a vacuum guage hook it to your manifold and watch the needle. rev the engine if it falls slowly towards 0 and hovers then you have a blocked exhaust

When is time to replace the fuel filter in the dodge ram 94 ,5.9 it have 10 old and work well..

Since the manufacturer installed the fuel filter integrated with the fuel pump, and since the fuel pump in located inside the furl tank, it would seem that the manufacturer doesn't expect the filter to need replacement until the fuel pump does.

Even though it seems like a trans issue, it may be a restricted fuel filter, that can plug more at higher speeds. I would check the fuel filter first. Good luck...

This will happen if the Torque converter goes bad or the TCM module. As well as any number of Solenoids inside the Transmission. When the Torque converter goes bad it the transmissions puts too much drag on the motor when you engage a gear. Basically it's like dumping a clutch on a standard. Have the transmission checked. Although I must say, if you have a mechanic or service shop looking at this I'm surprised it wasn't the first place they went after you explained the problem. You were most likely experiencing a loss of gas mileage as well. Were you using more fuel than normal prior to that point.

Transmission

are you sure you got the filter back into the hole tight it sounds like its leaking. also are you sure you used the right trans fluid some models require type 111 trans fluid instead of dextron mercron. double check these things its also a good idea to adjust the bands when you service the transmission. was there a lot of metal or black stuff in the pan. this shows a lot of wear in the transmission. and the need for a band adjustment.
