2003 Ford Windstar Reservoir Tanks leaks

The coolant reservoir tank in a 2003 Windstar is leaking at the seam where the two plastic halves meet. Does it need to be replaced? Can I replace the part myself, or should I have my shop do it?

Coolant reservoir empty when sitting overnight

You must have a coolant leak. If there are no signs of a leak, you may have a gasket on the engine that has gone bad, and the coolant is being pushed out the exhaust system. The coolant expands when hot and cools when the engine cools. During the cooling stage the cooling system creates a suction on the coolant in the reservoir and draws enough coolant back into the system to keep it full. Apparently you are loosing enough coolant somewhere that the reservoir can not fill the system before going dry.

Reservoir tank

The reservoirs come with a pump and you will need to remove the pump in order to replace the reservoir. If our going through the trouble to pull it might as well replace it. A low mileage used one from a salvage yard may not be a bad option either.

need to perform a coolant pressure test. fill the reservoir and after the engine cools down fill the radiator, next start the engine and wait till the coolant system builds pressure then turn off the engine and using a mirror and flash light look for a leak.check water pump, hoses, radiator tanks for cracks, intake gasket at the corners espesically at the back next to the trans.also pull the carpet back and check for coolant leaking from the heater core, and last remove the sparkplugs and check for leaking head gaskets.hope this helped.

get a new one from a dealer or a good used one from a scrapyard. If you have reasonable mechanical ability there isn't any reason you could not do that. Just don't forget. it is plastic...don't force anything and don't "lean into" fasteners when tightening it up.

2001 Ford Windstar is leaking antifreeze

Could be water pump, radiator, freeze plugs, hoses, ect. try and isolate the area by putting a piece of card board down on the ground and line up what is above it. Garages use a pressure tester on the cooling system to see where the leak is. I would guess water pump,or small bypass hose
