FYI, I WASN'T. WAS AT A BARBECUE, AND WENT TO MY CAR TO GET A CD. THANKS.

  • angelaqc Apr 16, 2009

THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY BUNNYDAWG...THE ENTIRE CHAMPAGNE GLASS EMPTIED INTO THE AREA. IT WAS STILL WORKING FINE THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS. IT WAS VERY STICKY AROUND THE GEARS AND I DID CLEAN WHAT I COULD SEE.

  • angelaqc Apr 16, 2009

YES, MUST HAVE FOOT ON THE BRAKE....AND NO, THERE IS NOT A BUTTON. IT'S NOT THE STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN SHIFT EITHER, IT'S THE SQUIGLY ONE THAT REQUIRES ME TO SLIDE IT OVER FROM THE PARK AND THEN DOWNWARDS.

  • angelaqc Apr 16, 2009

I CAN'T HEAR ANY SOUND WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. USED FORCE, BUT AFRAID I MAY BREAK THE SHIFTER

  • angelaqc Apr 16, 2009

    RU STILL THERE BUNNYDAWG?........ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  • angelaqc Apr 16, 2009

YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. BUT, DEFINATELY GET YOUR REST....JUST TRYING TO AVOID TOWING AND OTHER UNNECESSARY EXPENSES IF IT'S AS MINOR AS WAITING TIL IT WARMS UP OUTSIDE, CLEANING, ETC. THANK YOU.

  • angelaqc Apr 16, 2009

  • angelaqc Apr 16, 2009

ok... just looking at what is like the problem... it's called the shift interlock.... a fancy name for you have to put your foot on the brake before you can shift out of park. one other requirement is the ignition has to be in the run position.

  • Roberta Smith
    Roberta Smith May 11, 2010

found a good diagram of that area of the car... minus the out parts that hide the wiring.... just offhand.... are you required to have your seatbelt on before you can put it in gear ?

  • Roberta Smith
    Roberta Smith May 11, 2010

how cold is it there ?

  • Roberta Smith
    Roberta Smith May 11, 2010

try to remember i'm basically a volunteer. be that as it may.... abit more force then you normally use should be ok. you will know when you attempt to shift it if it won't move at all. if that is the case don't even try. i need to do abit more research to find out where that brake solenoid is.... as you may have poured champagne on it..... i am starting to wonder tho if the the spilled liquid is a red herring and something else is causing it.... long story but i didn't sleep last nite so i will be heading to bed in about an hour.... i'll see if i can't get another lad to help you out if i can't figure it out before then.

when you put your foot on the brake...can you hear the noise of the solenoid moving.... well any sound.... and have you tried with abit of force to move the shifter ?

  • Roberta Smith
    Roberta Smith May 11, 2010

does that shifter require that you have your foot on the brake before you take it out of park.... and / or is there a button on the shift that you press to allow it to be taken out of park ?

    Roberta Smith May 11, 2010

not done yet... how much was spilled.... trying to remember what sensors could be there or it may just be sticky and need some cleaning.

ok i'll try and explain this as clearly as possible... on the side of the shifter console away from you (passenger side) near the rear of the console do you see a button or a small lever that you can push. you may even have to use a small screwdriver if you can see an opening. push that lever and try to take it out of park.

Why cant i shift my car out of park?

Check to see if you have brake lights. The shift interlock usually operates off of a signal from the brake light switch. If you have no brake lights check the fuse to the brake lights and if they are good suspect brake light switch.

I have a 2005 Chrysler 300, As I shifted the car from park to reverse I heard and felt a pop in the gear shift. The gear shift moves but the car is stuck in low.

Go to the Prindle switch where the cable meets the transmission and check if it has not unhooked. Move the shifter all the way to the Park position and adjust/tighten.
