yes the petal feels the same and it seemed like it would slip but never had a problem pulling the rpms would go up but not too much it didn't overspeed or anything like that its just weird that while the engine is running i can depress the clutch petal and put it in any gear without trouble (no grinding of gears ) but let the clutch out and nothing ?? i always thought if the clutch is going out then there would be some grinding while putting in 1st thank you for your response

My thing with cars is always the simplest solution first, and that would be the clutch. how many miles does this car have? if it's over 90k and the clutch has never to your knowledge been replaced, then it is most likely the clutch. Nissan often puts very high quality clutches that last forever tho, on my 1986 300ZX turbo, I replaced the first clutch at 149,000 miles. Also, how did it go out? was it progressively losing power over time, or was it a loud crunching noise? Progressive'd point to a clutch.

I'm hearing a grinding noise when shifting gears in my 97 nissan pathfinder. It's not a full blown grind but just a slight grinding noise. It does it in reverse 1st 2nd 3rd and just started doin it in 4th....

check and/or change the transmission oil. Clutch problems are noticeable in 1st and reverse but as all the rest are syncro controlled you really do not need to use the clutch to change them. just get the engine rpms to match road speed and they will slip in. I am thinking a oil viscosity problem because of the colder weather.

97 geo metro runs but when put it in reverse or drive it makes a grind noise

Sounds like it's time for a new clutch or transmission. Take it to a mechanic you trust for a quick test to determine the issue.

I have an 1989 GMC Sierra K1500(4x4)5-speed. grinds when going...

It may be the transmission input shaft bushing or bearing, located in the rear of the engine crankshaft, in front of the clutch assembly. If the bushing or bearing is dry (needs to be greased), the input shaft will still try to turn with the engine rpm, even though the clutch pedal is depressed. Also, the clutch disc may not be fully releasing, which could possibly be corrected by adjusting the clutch pedal linkage. good luck

If it is a standard transmission then it sounds like you wore out the clutch.

How to engage 4x4 in 1995 nissan pathfinder, i just bought a pathfinder that was parked for 4 years and when i tried putting it in to 4wd the lever would not move it felt like it was frozen

My 97 pickup has to be in neutral. Push clutch in push down on 4x4 handle and then shift back or forward on lever. Plus engaging the lockout on hubs.

1999 k2500 4x4 5 speed started grinding only when

If it is noisy only in third, then third is where the problem is, cluster gear and/or mainshaft gear. Rule of thumb, if it is noisy in only one forward gear, then that gear is where the problem is.

Difficulty changing from 1st to 2nd in my 4x4

Tarpgrove:

Does the car grind when you put it into reverse? If so, the clutch is not fully disengaging and needs to be most likely bled or adjusted. It Is the clutch hydraulic oil they changed, correct?

If it does not grind when putting into reverse, I would ask the shop that did the clutch if they changed the fluid in the trans. And if so, what fluid they used. Check your owners manual for the correct fluid specification.

Also if your clutch was replaced because it was dragging, not because of slipping, you may have done some damage to 2ed gear synchronizer causing this problem as well.

Regards and and good luck.
