Remove radiator cap.Remove radiator bung from bottom of radiator and drain into container.Replace bung.Replace new 50/50 water/antifreeze mix.Turn interior heater up to max with fan on lowest setting.Run vehicle until hot, topping up radiator as required.Replace radiator cap when bubbling ceases. Road test vehicle, return and recheck level after cooling down period.Recheck level over the next few days and check for any new signs of leakage in system.(Fresh introduction of antifreeze can reduce the tension of the water molecules and can produce new leaks)
Make sure your fan is working properly. When you turn on the heater you are forcing the fan to cool the radiator. It may not be turning on automatically when it is supposed to. Let us know if this helps..
Have BMW do the diagnosis. The noise you're hearing is the "re-circulate fan". It's supposed to run for up to a minute after you turn car off. It re-circulates oaf through front vents/cabin filter. Trust me, you do not want to "operate" on that dash.
If the ventilation system is set on any setting other than off (I'm talking about the vent, heat, defroster, ac, etc) the fan motor will automatically run at low unless yo select a higher setting. To get the fan OFF, turn off the ventilation system by selecting OFF.
Please understand that the fan may stay on or off for several minutes even after the engine is shut down and the keys are removed!!! There is a sensor which detects heat coming from the engine. This same fan will stay on until the system reaches a lower temp. You may always reset your vehicle programming for this same device by removing the red lead to your battery and then replacing it after several seconds. Please follow up with a reply if this does not help your situation.
For Audi A6 the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram. The fuse for the radio is no.# 37 fuse: F37 (20A - yellow colour). See picture below:
There is a second fuse on the back of the radio, (10A - red colour), but you have to pull the unit to check & change it. This is only course of action. You need special Audi radio extracting tools, (two radio keys).
