I swear to god my camaro has 2 fuel pumps! it came stock with a manual one we changed to a later model motor and had to add an in line electric one. it started dying periodically. now it doesnt die but surges periodically. i noticed my battery dying at a rediculous rate. when i unplugged it i notice a humming noise from the gas tank. how in the world! there must be two pumps on this car. its 84 z28 h.o. please anyone know anything!?!

i figured it out! the original motor came stock with a manual fuel pump. but someone said theres one in the tank to help start it up or something. but anyway i looked under the car this morning and sure enough i heard it humming away while the car was turned off. i unplugged the plug and now the battery doesnt die and the car runs better. it came stock 5l but i put a 5.7 on it. and its carbureted

well i thought it worked. now its back to doing what it was doing before. i died in the middle of an intersection today. in the drive through my temp started rising. i put it in neutral and it slowly fell back down. then i pulled to the intersection and it died! had to push it across. i let it sit for a few and unplugged the map sensor and it ran for about a mile. when you try to start it it acts like the battery is dead. then you turn it over again and sometimes itll turn over. it has no where near the horses it should and im very frustrated. tired of it stalling. itll run alright for a few days. then it dies out of nowhere!

just changed the oil and still looks new. the exhaust blows grey smoke after it stalls and you finally get it started back up. but only for a second. it stumps me cuz it runs alright in cold weather, it just seems not to have all its horses. but as soon as the weather heats up it stalls. and then the battery starts ticking like its dead. but give it 10-30 min and itll start back up. ive replaced carburetor, added fuel regulator, and debating on the distributor. its a vortec motor like whats in the silverados and tahos only its carbureted. i just cant figure it out i change something. it runs fine for a day or two, then the weather warms up and bam. it starts it again.

i had the cat checked today, its fine. its not vapor lock cuz when it stalls i move the throttle and can see gas spraying good. so im thinking its something electrical.

ok. i take that back. it stalled today and when i checked the fuel it was spraying more like a windex bottle instead of the constant stream that it should have flowed. i put thermal tape on and tried to move it away from the heat the best way i could. but its still not seeming to work

oil pressures good its carbureted and always has been just got a new carburetor on it. the manual pump was the one that mounted on the block. the pumps wired through the distributor some how and after i ran it without that other pump it died, then i hooked the pump in the tank back up as well as the one under the hood and it started back up and ran fine. i looked it up and they said that pump was to prevent vapor lock. so that problems fixed now. now i just gotta talk to the dude who was 'supposed' to have rebuilt my tranny cuz it just lost third gear yesterday. i appreciate your help man.

What's a "manual pump"? also was it carburated or tbi or tpi? And what did you change it to carb, tbi, or tpi? How did you wire the new electric pump in?

Just a thought for you. Hows oil pressure ? Some of those electric pumps were wired through oil pressure switch, as a precaution for accidents. Engine quits, oil pressure drops & shuts off circuit to fuel pump.

what colour is the exhaust smoke as well as the colour of the engine oil ?

is that a 5 L motor... and carb or fuel injection on the old motor. i suspect if you look at the old motor the fuel pump was removed and there was just a plate to cover the hole. a fuel pump in the trunk was normal.... and if you added one then that's why there are two.

My guess is if you changed to an older style sending unit, you could eliminate that electric pump & just use your mechanical one as they did before EFI.

Fuel pressure? Do you hear the fuel pump running? Read the codes to see if ECM is still alive. Do you have spark at the plugs? Remember all motors need 3 things to run air, fuel, and fire at the right time.

No power to fuel pump.

Don't forget to check for a good ground at the pump, I've seen this problem pay for a new fuel pump more than once.

My 94 z28 camaro chuggs when i punch it

sounds like a fuel pump struggling to pass its contents. try running a treatment solution in your tank. if this fails to work, you will need a new fuel pump to correct this problem. sometimes, trash will build up in your tank and it will cause build up in the jets. you should check vacuum as well if needed.
