Question about 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Transmission fluid level

How do I know the fluid level in the automatic transmission in my 2006 Malibu Maxx is correct?

The transmission has a cap on it. Twist it off and there is no dipstick or "measuring device" on it, it is simply a cap. I can look in and see shiny metal but nothing to help me determine the correct fluid level.

It is usually printed on the Transmission dipstick.
Engine warm, engine running, on level ground. Check level on dipstick, shoud be somewhere between add and full. Do not add oil if it is not below the add line.

Actually your car has no transmission dipstick...

There is a red fill cap on the transmission bell housing under the brake master cylinder. You'll have to look real hard to see it. There is also a bolt on the passenger side of the transmission that you remove to check the level.

You have to fill the oil from the fill cap until it runs out of the bolt hole. Don't ask me why GM did this on a lot of their cars...

I found this after a little research, I don't own any GM products so it came as a surprise to me.

    Hope it helps

2006 Malibu Maxx SS transmission.Only drives in M and reverse.

It might have gone into safe mode but I would have expected safe mode to permit the vehicle only into low and reverse but your car might be different. Is the problem accompanied by dashboard lights staying on that did not stay on before. I would say that this is definitely one for a garage mechanic as , padricularly if dash lights are on, it would need diagnostic equopment to identify the problem

Good Luck

How does one check transmission oil in 2005 chevy malibu maxx

You don't yourself. The lube change shop or garage can do this (requires special tools or removal of the pan). for a 2005 you're likely in need of a flush. some models can have a dipstick installed, but its not necessary. Unless you have a serious leak of fluid or shifting issues, it's rare to lose fluid. If you are having issues, then start with a flush and inspection BY A REPUTABLE GARAGE. do not use a dealer or transmission shop, they will always find ways to seprate you from your $$$

Where are fuses for windshield washer pump on 2006 malibu

check the washer fluid level, if none in there then buy some and fill it. If that doesn't work avoid getting it dirty while driving and clean it every 100 miles or 100 days which ever comes first. If still a problem it could be the fuse which is located in the fuse box that the manual says it is.

Transmission whines under load. Fresh fluid and filter change and levels are proper. Shifts fine and no slipping. No metal in the pan when the fluid was changed.

Are you sure it is the transmission making the noise? How many miles on the car? AND did you chekc the power steering fluid level ?

I need to know the location of the Transmission dipstick on a 2006 malibu maxx LTZ 3.5 lite, as the car is not shifting properly shifting,it runs as its stuck in 2nd gear and yet its an automatic...

If you can't find the stick, likely you have one of GM's "better ideas"...See if there is a fill cap on top of the trans, If it's there, there is a plug on the right side of the transmission. Remove the plug and on flat ground, fill 'till fluid comes out of the fill hole, then re-install the plug.
But, the condition you have outlined sounds like the trans control is stuck in "limp mode" and may need attention (trans diagnostics) to determine if your problem is in the trans or the control itself. Especially if you see no obvious leaks fluid may not be your problem.

2006 Malibu Maxx ss hard shifting/Check engine light

There is no dip stick. Its most likely not the fluid. These malibu's use the first generation GM LAN system. Check the data cord comming from the transmission near the mechanical shifting linkage. Alot of these shifting issues and errors are from a break in the wiring causing bad data to be sent/rvcd to/from the computer control module- these cars are electronically controled shifted, not mechanical.

2006 Malibu Maxx SS transmission /engine issue

good afternoon and welcome to fixya
all right first of you you need to go and get a second opinion from another shop, i can tell you that you do not need another engine, sounds like a solenoid on the transmissionis not getting the proper pressure, these transmissions are very sensitive to fluid changes and pressures. i would take the vehicle to a well known transmission shop and not tell them that the dealership said you need a new engine. just tell them the problem your having and let them know that that is a new transmission, could just be fluid is a little low. good luck and let me know the outcome and ill try to help you more.

Transmission fluid level?

There is a 11mm plug on the passenger side of the trans near the axle shaft. Remove that with the car level, trans hot, and engine idling. Fluid should just come out of there when its full.
