What fuse did they change? Are you sure it wasn't a relay or sensor they changed? You need to check the computer codes and test the fuel pressure. It wouldn't be a clogged catalytic converter if it happens only occasionally but could be a bad O2 sensor, fuel pump or filter, fuel pressure regulator, VSS (vehicle speed sensor), dirty throttle body or bad IAC motor, throttle position sensor, MAF sensor. See there's lots of things to check that's why you need to check the codes and fuel pressure first.

2000 Ford Contour SVT engine idles high (revs) when driving

It sounds like a faulty idle air control valve. The computer uses the valve to control idle speed by regulating the amount of air entering the throttle body. Its possible the motor inside the valve is weak, or the valve is gummed up. I would unplug the valve when base idle is near normal and drive it for a day or two. If the valve is the problem the idle speed should stay in one place. And it should set a trouble code for the valve being disconnected.

My 1992 ford exploer will not hold a steady idle. I replaced the throutle positioning sensor.when i start it, it revs to 2 rpms then cuts of and sometimes it runs but the rpms go up and down for about 1 to...

  1. baring a major vaccumm leak
  2. idle speed control motor is probably sticking
  3. it is a 2 wire soleniod with an air shuttle which allows air to bypass the throttle plate.
  4. when acting up at idle tap the idle valve repeatedly with a small hammer.
  5. does idle change?
  6. if so replace valve

1992 16V - idles fine, drives fine. Only when foot of the gas jer

idle air speed control valve(iac),too low idle or driveline problem like play in the drive shafts. if you put it in park and give it to say2500 rpm and let go of the throttle,does it return to 900rpm?if it dips down to 5 or 600 then to 900 the iac is bad.

I had a similar problem and resolved it by replacing the mass airflow sensor. Ive got 235k+ miles on my 1992 Maxima SE.
Still runs good but having problems with the alarm system.
