The air bag is blown and i wish to replace it,thank you

I had a 99 explorer and wanted to replace the cruise control attached to the steering wheel. Every time I started to do so the horn would start honking. I was told that only the dealership or licensed mechanic could do so because of the airbag. So i would look into the regulations and guidelines for replacing your air bag yourself. There are regulations for the airbag! Just a suggestion! If you find out differently I am curious to know why that is...?

Flashing airbag light 4 blinks 6 blinks

This is a code 46 LH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly. Often there is a poor contact on one of the wiring connectors. Some of the problems can happen from a poor connection where everything connects under the drivers side seat.
Here is a list of codes for the airbag light issues.

Air Bag Fault Code Table

AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR FAULT CODE PRIORITY TABLE

Priority Code Component/Fault Description

Highest -- No Air Bag Lamp - Inoperative Lamp Circuit or No Ignition Voltage to Diagnostic Monitor

' -- Continuous Air Bag Lamp - Diagnostic Monitor Disconnected or Inoperative

' 12 Low Battery Voltage

' 13 Air Bag Circuit or Crash Sensor Circuit - Shorted to Ground

' 21 Safing Sensor - Not Mounted on Vehicle Properly

' 22 Safing Sensor Output Circuit - Shorted to Battery Voltage

' 23 Safing Sensor Input Feed/Return Circuit Open

' 24 Open in Circuit 944B or Low Resistance in Crash Sensor(s)

' 32 Driver Side Air Bag/Safing Sensor Circuit - High Resistance or Open

' 33 Pin 7 Not Grounded at Diagnostic Monitor

' 34 Driver Side Air Bag/Safing Sensor Circuit - Low Resistance or Shorted

' 35 Low Resistance Across Pins 8 and 9 at Diagnostic Monitor

' 41 Crash Sensor Circuit - High Resistance or Open

' 44 RH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly

' 45 Center Radiator Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly

' 46 LH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly

' 51 Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse - Blown and Short to Ground No Longer Exists

' 52 Backup Power Supply - Voltage Boost Fault

' 53 Internal Diagnostic Monitor Fault

Hope this helps...

Remove the negative cable from your car battery before replacing car air bags

Deactivate the air bag by removing the air bag fuses. Look in your car owners manual to locate the fuses

Airbag lt on

Hi!

Code 51 means: Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse ä Fuse Blown Due to Intermittent Short to Ground. It means that the computer controlling the airbags sensed a short in the wiring and disabled itself by tripping an internal fuse for safety reasons so that the air bag cannot be deployed accidentally. To repair the car, the wiring problem must be fixed, and then the airbag module replaced. Look for smashed wires, wires that are rubbing against bare metal or other wiring damage affecting the airbag circuits. This wiring is all under the plastic cowl around the steering column.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further clarification.

Air Bag light

Although it may cost you, for a thing like airbags going off while you innocently drive, it may be worth it to go to the dealer on this one. Most likely a sensor is corroded or a bag has gone bad and the vehicle is trying to tell you something is wrong.

Air bag light is on and cruise control, lighter and horn don't work. There is a mechanism I'm sure in the steering wheel that needs to be changed. Is it dangerous to drive until I get it...

hi
im dave
if the air bag light is on that means the system is disabled. If you dont mind driving without an airbag than i would say it is no more dangerous than driving a pre air bag vehicle and those inherent dangers. Remember howevere that an air bag is a secondary resttraint system and should always be used in conjunction with the primary restraint system...your seatbelts.
