Question about 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

My 93 jeep grand cherokee started to vibrate pretty violently while it is in idle. As soon as I would take off, it stopped, but then the other day while I was driving, the car died. It started up right away. I know that I need to change the fuel filter. Would the fuel filter cause this problem or do you think that this sounds like the fuel pump. A couple people think that it might be my alternator. Can anyone tell me what they think is causing the problem?

That vibrating your mentioning is not the fuel system or an altenator. Its your cams screaming at you to check the oil level after you let it sit for a good hour or so. If its full, unfortunatly you may need new cams. also have the lifters checked as they could be the culpret. they may be stiking

Disconnecting your battery, as you must've done when changing the starter, will cause the ecu to revert to factory settings and the computer will have to relearn the proper idle for your jeep.

I don't know engine size? The fuel pressures I found was 31--39 psi, 92--95. I would use a gage and check proper fuel pressure.

Sounds like an electrical problem; look for loose, corroded or kinked/broken wires. The problem is most likely in the dash wiring/connections and seems to be pretty common in jeeps.

93 grand cherokee 5.2 all time 4wd wont stay runing when put in gear

It sounds like the torque converter is locked up. Possible a bad torque converter or converter solenoid. First thing you should try is unplugging the solenoid plug on the transmission. Drivers side, near the shifter. Not the three pin connector near the pan on the same side. The connector you want is higher than the reverse light plug.
