Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

When starting car engine cannot stay running...

I start the car and it goes up to 1500 RPMS, then as it settles into idle, it just cuts out? What could it be?

Sounds like your timing is off. If not, what about spark plugs and/or wires. A simple tune up would be able to fix it or rule those out.

On the 02 sebring when the cooling fan or i turn on the air the car idles(rpm) high then back down then stalls out if i dont hit the gas to steady the rpms

run the fault codes as the ecm should compensate for the extra load on the engine when the ac compressor cuts in
there will be a rpm drop of around 150 rpms when it cuts in then it should settle back to normal rpms and when the ac cuts out the rpms will go up and the settle back to normal
anything else indicates a sensor fault.

I have a 97 ACURA cl 2.2 and when I start my engine it the rpm idles to 1. Why is that?

unless the car is at operating temperature , the engine rpms on start is hiogher the at run as the ECM has a higer setting for idle ( like having a choke out a bit ) until the engine checks are done and then it settles back
best run the fault codes to check for faulty sensors

1996 acura 2.5 tl upon start up the engine goes to 2500-3000 rpms then the engine rpms start surging between 1500 to 2000 then after several minutes it goes to a normal idle and runs fine.

Hi, I had the same problem, and is now fixed. Replace your idle control valve, and the idle problem will go away, and your car will be PERFECT!

I need help with my 89 accord Lxi, EFI When I cold start it the RPMS shoot up to about 2000, drops to about 1700, climbes back up to 2000, stays there for about 4min. Shoots up to about 2300, stays there...

Have you tested the IAC (idle air control) sounds like it's sticking, I have tried to clean them but it was short lived, so once you have determine it's bad (after market $85) I would replace it and solve the problem.

REPLACED STARTER AND BATTERY,BUT ENGINE WONT STAY RUNNING WITH OUT FOOT ON GAS?

you may need to clean the throltte body, and then start the engine and hold the rpms high for a minute, then slowly reduce the gas pedal to idle, you blanked out the memory, now it needs to learn the idle speed again.

Just replaced tranny in 99 dodge ram 1500. Its starts doesnt stay running, cuts out. Could this be a vacuum line? Help

if it will stay running if you kep the rpms up try driving it a while. the pcm may have lost its memory for the idle control and needs time to reset it
