Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

2002 Jeep GC will not idle

Daughter left lights or something on and ran down battery. Vehicle could not be jump started had to remove battery and have it checked and charged. Vehicle will start but not stay running without giving gas. It stalls when stopping or even turning onto another street. I can keep it running if I use 2 feet to drive. It doesn't appear to be battery related because I have tried starting it repeatedly without giving it gas in hopes of resetting idle on computer and it still has plenty of charge. Doesn't appear to have any misses to suggest possible fuel problems, but changing fuel filter anyways

Forget what I just said... close doors & lock and unlock door with key.
    (other thing was for chevy)

Try turning the key on and leaving it on for about ten minutes. Till security light stops flashing.

Battery drains and idle problems when jumped. 2002 Jeep Liberty

I would look at the fuses and fuseable links, and check the output of the alternator. If you disconnect the battery you can check the battery for a dead cell, and check the major circuits for a draw with everything turned off.

Was fine started great then voltage hand went left abs light came on brake light came on dome lights came on head lights went off all panel lights went crazy blinking then jeep would not start without

Seems to be having problems with the alternator. Alternator itself can be bad, but also the voltage regulator, which sits inside the PCM (powertrain control module).
DonĀ“t continue using with battery voltage around the 10V, because it will ruin your battery as well. Completely charge the battery with an external battery charger and let the alternator be checked out first.

2002 Mercury Mountaineer starts at times other times clicking sound and need jump to get started then starts up right away

It sounds like there must be something draining the battery while the vehicle is switched off. It could be something like a trunk light which is not switching off or a short across some circuit that does not show up on any light. The first and easiest test is to disconnect the battery negative cable whenever you park the vehicle overnight etc. and see if the battery still runs down.
As a more positive step and if this does not affect the alarm, disconnect the positive lead from the battery and wire a bulb like a tail light bulb, between the terminal and the removed lead. The bulb should light up. Make sure that everything on the vehicle is switched off, the bulb should still be lit. Remove and replace the fuses one by one until the bulb goes out. That is the circuit that is running your battery flat. Check all the components on that circuit until you get the light to stay out and your problem should be fixed.
Check your charging system. With the engine running at about 2000 rpm, a volt meter across the battery terminals should read around 14 to 14.5 volts and drop to about 13.8 volts with the engine at idle. If this does not happen, the charging system may be defective. Even with lights on the voltage should climb, but will drop lower at idle.

I have a 2004 Jeep GC 6cyl 4WD. My check engine light is on, scanned and got P0203, P0300, P303. Changed the spark plugs, fuel injector #3. Started it up and ran rough, I left it in the garage all night...

codem p 0203 refers to injector 3---circuit malfunction===causes wiring--injector--ECM
chweck for harness connection , bad wire for no 3 injector or corroded pins for no 3 injector in the connection

I had this problem with my 2002 jeep overland. it took forever to get the problem resolved. I took it to the jeep garage and the fixed everything else that still didn't correct the problem. Finally one of the mechanics took it for a test drive(I told them it didn't do it until it warmed up) and ran a diagnostic. It was a relay for the transmission. Can remember how much it cost seeing all the other things they fixed added up to a good chunk of change.

Hope this helps

No power to dash or dome light in 2003 jeep tj.

As far as the guage issue it is most likely a problem with the body control module, have a trouble code test run on the BCM to determine the issue, the stalling is caused by the loss of the idle strategy learning when the battery went dead, the best thing to do is the following procedure I use to clear this issue.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls (or very low idle) near or at idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
