Car leaking oil around oil filter but it's not the filter itself.

Hello scolletti1: The part that sits directly above or just to the right of the oil filter is the oil pressure switch or sender unit. Depending on your dash. If you have a light it is called a switch, If you have a oil gage it is called a sender unit. The faster the RPM the faster the oil leak. Should you need any further help just ask? Thank You for using FixYa. Roger

Oil leaks away from around filter when eng stopped for awhile

Probable cause is that filter had problem when last installed:
- Seal should be moistened with clean oil prior to installation
- Make sure seating surface is clean prior to installation
- Filter should be turned as snug as possible with hands, then about 1/3 turn more.
- check for leaks after running first time, and then tighten another 1/4 turn if leaking

FOR NOW, try tightening it by hand, if loose, follow above procedure.... If it's time for an oil change, now could be the perfect time to do it.

I have a bad oil leak on my 1996 Plymouth Breeze. I was told it was the oil pressure sender and needed a special socket, and was located on the block below the exhaust manifold. I was sold the socket and...

ok i believe the one you changed is the switch the one next to it is the oil pressure sending unit
there is a difference between the two///// make sure they sell you thread tape so this way you don't have any leaks//// it doesn't take a lot of thread tape on the threads

hope this helps you
good luck

Changed head gasket and cam seal twice and the car run two days without leaking oil now it is leaking oil on right side of car

Are you tightening all the bolts to torque specification? If not that can be an issue for your leaks. Also did you have the head resurfaced before installing the new head gasket? If not it could be slightly warped and leaking.
